“Amazing vacation property”

Quinta de Santa Luzia was all we could have asked for. Many vacation rentals will say they sleep 8 or 10 but the rooms are tiny and everyone is on top of each other, not at Quinta de Santa Luzia, the rooms are spacious, each bedroom had it's own bathroom and there was a wonderful living room on the second floor in the foyer between all the bedrooms that we were able to enjoy at night when the children went to bed. You feel like you are living in a piece of history just looking at the architecture of the property. There are two terraces, one has tables setup that was enjoyable in the evening as a place to eat and play board games. the second terrace has an amazing view and we were able to see the amazing new year's Madeira fireworks.

The house has all the amenities you could ask for and the property is amazing. the boys (10, 10 and 11) enjoyed the property more than anyone, they had plenty of room to roam both in the house and running around the property. They enjoyed identifying all the fruit trees (and trying some of the fruit). They used the tennis courts, ping pong table, and pool quite a few times ( a bit cold for me to jump in but enjoyable to just sit and relax). All of the adults enjoyed morning walks through the property, an enjoyable way to start the morning.

We would definitely come back and stay at this property again. Andrew was an amazing host, showing us around an making us feel very welcome during our whole stay. The one issue we had (the wifi stopped working), he answered very promptly and had it addressed that day ( even though it was Christmas week).

Great place to stay. full of history, grandness and old school charm.
Andrew the host was welcoming and accommodating.........he had us at hello!!!!
he organised a day trip to the mountains with lunch included. this was without exception the best part of the week. We were given the opportunity to explore parts of the island we would probably not have explored.

this is a great place for groups of friends or families.
highly reccommended!!!

“Heaven in Madeira...”

No doubt that the Quinta de Santa Luzia is one of the most amazing and unique houses that I ever stayed in... And I've been in many places of this category before...
The stately and truly immens Quinta and its breathtaking grounds (extending several hectares!) breath history throughout. You find yourself privileged being "Lord of the Manner" for a couple of weeks, staying in a house where (wine) history was written.
And still, the house and the grounds have this special something which makes you feel at ease and at home from day one. Andrew, the owner who grew up at the Quinta, is partly responsible for that. An excepionally modest, 2 feet on the ground, kind of guy. Andrew obviously knows everything there is to know about the house, his family (which is the family behind Madeira's most famous Blandy's wine - google it, it's very impressive!) and the island and is very happy to share this information with you on a very personal level.
Everything you can possibly wish is there (private tennis court, giant pool, private park so big you get lost in it, working farm, own herbs/vegetables/fruit...) But if you also wish to discover Funchal itself, you can't beat the location; we just walked outside the impressive gates, down the hill and we were in the buzzing historical centre.
People who like peace, privacy, spirituality (great place to practice yoga!), luxury, history and exclusivity will be very happy... I wish I could have stayed longer. One day, I'll go back, that's a promise...
Best regards,

“Amazing house and grounds with a fantastic view of Funchal”

We had a wonderful time here relaxing in the peaceful surroundings which are surprisingly close to the main centre of town. The house is incredible; huge rooms with everything you could wish for and more. We played table tennis, snooker and tennis, as well as spending a lot of time in the lovely infinity pool which had it's own kitchen, barbecue and changing rooms! We had dinner every night out on the veranda which has a fantastic view of Funchal and the sea.
Andrew, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful and very generous with herbs and chillies from the garden. We used a supermarket 10 mins drive away and visited the market in Funchal with it's wide choice of fruit, veg and fish.
Good places to visit are Santana, Porto Moniz and Curral das Freiras.
The weather was warm, even during the evenings, but quite cloudy so it was never uncomfortable. Madeira is a lovely (but very hilly!) island and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

“Wonderful house and gardens, for large family/group of friends”

We had a wonderful stay in Quinta de Santa Luzia. The location (mid-hill from Funchal, but a 5-10 minute car drive to the center of the city) is great, and the 360º view over Funchal bay is simply breathtaking. The house has large and tastefully-decorated public rooms and ample bedrooms, and a great covered balcony for dining outside. The extensive gardens and the huge pool are lovely, and Andrew, the owner, is very nice, relaxed and attentive. We all would love to come again.
