This was our second visit to Madeira and the Quinta Jardins do Lago, having first been in 2011. Our stay proved to be every bit as special as our first visit. We love the situation of the hotel... set amongst beautiful sub-tropical gardens with stunning views over Funchal and the hills beyond and with distant glimpses of the sea to the South. The staff offered a warm welcome on arrival and were friendly and attentive throughout our stay. The Hotel is very comfortable, well appointed, and exudes an atmosphere of 'colonial elegance'. After a relaxing breakfast on the terrace or in the garden we enjoyed mornings by the beautiful swimming pool and strolling among the exotic trees and shrubs. A small croquet lawn and outdoor table tennis court provided an outlet for our more energetic moments. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that since our last visit the management have created a wonderful vegetable garden sporting a variety of salads, beans and vegetables, many of which found their way on to our table at dinner. It is good to find a hotel which is using its own local produce. We are already looking forward to another visit!

Stayed at Quinta Jardins do Lago recently and did enjoy it very much. Staff was very friendly and polite, the general ambience is very neat and guest feel welcome.
Gardens are fabulous and the rooms are above standard, except for the TV set, that is really small. It is ridiculous the size of the TV, although I do understand that the Management tried to “save” the old piece of furniture, and a bigger TV set doesn’t fit in it. But again, watching TV is not the most important thing to do amongst all the beauty of the place.
Only remark on food is the breakfast is just regular, I mean, it is very good and well served, but not exceptional.
Overall, I do recommend this hotel, a small traditional Quinta, very well located and with a very good atmosphere.
Would like to return. And that’s what counts…

Room Tip: Go there!...

We chose Madeira & the Quinta Jardins do Lago to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary & both lived up to - & in the hotel's case - exceeded our expectations. We had been upgraded to a Junior Suite with flowers, fruit & sparkling wine on our arrival. The hotel & it's wonderful gardens & immaculate pool were so relaxing.& the staff could not have done more for us. The breakfasts & five-course evening meals (table d'hote) were so delicious & beautifully presented.that we felt no need of the A la Carte menu (although it looked great). We used the hotel's courtesy bus on two occasions to visit Funchal but loved the ambience of the hotel so much that we just didn't want to leave it for very long. We also went to Reids hotel for afternoon tea as that had been our other choice hotel but we were so pleased we had chosen the Jardins do Lago.as it provided us with a beautiful setting, relaxing & tranquil atmosphere & immaculate service by friendly & efficient staff. We hope to return in the not too distant future & that says it all!.

This was our first visit and we were not disappointed....staff friendly and helpful, food (we went half board and would do so again) was great, every area clean and well-maintained, all set in beautiful gardens. Many of the trees and plants are labelled which is helpful if you are interested in plants, as we are. We hired a car and there is ample parking. Altogether a peaceful, relaxing experience which we'd be only too happy to repeat.

We stayed for 7 nights half board and would strongly recommend this hotel, from the moment we arrived all the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was on the ground floor and spotlessly clean as well as being very quiet with a lovely view of the garden. The food was excellent every night, all 5 courses. I have to eat gluten free and this was absolutely no problem to them at all. It was so relaxing in the hotel I felt I could have stayed there all day relaxing around the pool or walking around the beautiful gardens. We failed to book ourselves on to the courtesy bus on our first day, and found it was full but that was no problem to the staff who arranged for the bus to return and take us in to Funchal within 15 minutes. Our stay was so relaxing and we would certainly stay there again. It didn't bother us but if you were looking to spend your evenings in Funchal you would need to take a taxi as it is located away from central Funchal.

We've recently returned from a great holiday in Quinta Jardins do Lago, and we will definitely be returning. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff friendly and attentive. The dining room is charming and the Table D'Hote was exemplary every night. Lunch by the pool was perfect. Some people may be put off by the hotel's location, which is somewhat out of the centre of Funchal, but this was not a problem for us. The courtesy bus was easy to use, and the hotel was so pleasant it seemed a shame to go anywhere else. My only criticism is that the gym facilities could be upgraded.
This is not a hotel for young families, but if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with great food, in a small hotel set in a fabulous garden, you can't do much better than this!

We were very much looking forward to our first visit to Quinta Jardines do Lago, we have visited Madeira 19 times and never been disappointed, well this time we were over the moon with this change of hotel, whilst we looked long and hard at changing from our previous hotel having stayed there on 12 occasions, this was superb, well managed and staff who were only too happy to attend to your every need, breakfast again could not be faulted, and certainly everyone was most pleasant and made everyone welcome. Colombo and the Swans certainly made the walk through the gardens an adventure.

The Hotel mini bus was very convenient, and taxis were around £6 into Funchal or back to to hotel in the evenings, well worth very penny.

Don`t think about this hotel any longer, give it a try. FABULOUS
