This was our first visit and we were not disappointed....staff friendly and helpful, food (we went half board and would do so again) was great, every area clean and well-maintained, all set in beautiful gardens. Many of the trees and plants are labelled which is helpful if you are interested in plants, as we are. We hired a car and there is ample parking. Altogether a peaceful, relaxing experience which we'd be only too happy to repeat.

We stayed for 7 nights half board and would strongly recommend this hotel, from the moment we arrived all the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was on the ground floor and spotlessly clean as well as being very quiet with a lovely view of the garden. The food was excellent every night, all 5 courses. I have to eat gluten free and this was absolutely no problem to them at all. It was so relaxing in the hotel I felt I could have stayed there all day relaxing around the pool or walking around the beautiful gardens. We failed to book ourselves on to the courtesy bus on our first day, and found it was full but that was no problem to the staff who arranged for the bus to return and take us in to Funchal within 15 minutes. Our stay was so relaxing and we would certainly stay there again. It didn't bother us but if you were looking to spend your evenings in Funchal you would need to take a taxi as it is located away from central Funchal.

We've recently returned from a great holiday in Quinta Jardins do Lago, and we will definitely be returning. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff friendly and attentive. The dining room is charming and the Table D'Hote was exemplary every night. Lunch by the pool was perfect. Some people may be put off by the hotel's location, which is somewhat out of the centre of Funchal, but this was not a problem for us. The courtesy bus was easy to use, and the hotel was so pleasant it seemed a shame to go anywhere else. My only criticism is that the gym facilities could be upgraded.
This is not a hotel for young families, but if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with great food, in a small hotel set in a fabulous garden, you can't do much better than this!

We were very much looking forward to our first visit to Quinta Jardines do Lago, we have visited Madeira 19 times and never been disappointed, well this time we were over the moon with this change of hotel, whilst we looked long and hard at changing from our previous hotel having stayed there on 12 occasions, this was superb, well managed and staff who were only too happy to attend to your every need, breakfast again could not be faulted, and certainly everyone was most pleasant and made everyone welcome. Colombo and the Swans certainly made the walk through the gardens an adventure.

The Hotel mini bus was very convenient, and taxis were around £6 into Funchal or back to to hotel in the evenings, well worth very penny.

Don`t think about this hotel any longer, give it a try. FABULOUS

We have just spent a week in this really beautiful hotel and seeing other quintas while visiting their gardens I doubt there was one that could beat Quinta Jardin do Lago. The rooms, facilities, service and particularly the gardens were spectacular. The staff were really charming.
Lunch by the pool could not have been in a better or more relaxing environment, wondering through palms admiring brightly coloured tree blossoms or choosing a new book from the numerous shelves in the comfortably furnished library made it hard to tear yourself away to sight see!
The conversion of this stately residence into a hotel has been done very discretely with the grounds and atmosphere carefully and lovingly preserved. The location is ideal, not too far from the bussle of Funchal but equally far enough from the centre to look out on the lights of the city below and enjoy the peace and quiet.
When looking through the broshures the description "quintessentialy English" jumped out at me. Absolutely, except I do not have palm trees and bananas growing in my garden or a tame 60 year old tortoise. Say hi to Columbus from us and tell him we will be back. He is a very sociable tortoise and likes is neck stroked.

Room Tip: The gardens all overlook the garden and I think any would be good
