Hidden treasure. Our stay in this small hotel was perfect.Staff are so kind and thoughtful, lovely tastefully decorated rooms, spotlessly clean. It was delightful sitting out in the lush garden for breakfast, which was varied and ample.Amazing birdsong-I could even hear it from the bath! We met some charming fellow guests .Location wise it was good (although beware hills-nearly everywhere in Funchal is breathtakingly steep),a wonderful selection of restaurants very close by (and we are foodies) plus supermarkets, hairdressers, tour firms etc in fact everything you may need.
We would love to return.

Room Tip: The hotel is gradually being refurbished but all the rooms seem very pleasant. Let the hotel know o...

I have just returned from a weeks holiday here and it was wonderful.
The staff are lovely and they can't do enough for you. The breakfasts are very lavish and there is something for everybody.
I had room 16 which was wonderful, a large room with bed and seating area. They had cups and a kettle so don't bring your own. The bathroom had a walk in shower which was ideal for my 89 year old mother. It was lovely sitting in the gardens listening to the birds. Another lovely aspect was watching the lizards darting about.
There is some renovation work going on at the moment so I don't know if this will affect your stay. They are refurbishing 3 apartments so don't know how it will go on for. Better to ask they are genuine and will give you an honest answer. I wasn't going to put a review because I thought if people read this and they are interested in staying here, then I might not be able to book again should I want a return journey. But I thought it is a lovely hotel and I wanted to share this with you. Hope you book and have a wonderful time, I know I did.

Room Tip: Room 16 is fabulous

We have just returned from a week in Funchal and stayed in Vila Vicencia from the Thomson Small and Friendly brochure. After dropping people off at the various huge hotels, we were absolutely delighted when we arrived at Vila Vicencia. When you go through the gate you arrive in a beautiful sub-tropical garden where there are three villas. We had room 36 which had not been refurbished, and although the bathroom was in need of some modernisation, the extra sitting room and the huge balcony with its wonderful views certainly made up for it. So much so, we would not be disappointed to have 36 again. Everyone was friendly, it had a beautiful pool with small sitting areas, and everything was spotlessly clean. It was a place where you felt a very personal welcome. We ate up the road at L'Osteria, we walked to the Doca Do Cavacas, a fish restaurant at Ponta da Cruz, and we had a magical evening at Marina Terrace in Funchal, and each was exceptional. We felt that in Vila Vicencia, we had found somewhere very special.

Room Tip: Garden view with a balcony is perfect.

We loved this place. Staff were friendly, our room was one of the small ones with no balcony but it did not matter as there were lots of nooks where you could sit and read a book. The 3 villas are surrounded by gardens and a pool.

This is the hotel for you if you hate the idea of a high rise full of people but want to be able to get out and about easily.

First Time in Madeira chose Funchal as it was recommended by friends we stayed at the Vila Vicencia a small hotel from the Thomson brochure
We were allocated room 44 a superior room with balcony and garden view this room had recently been fully renovated .
we were taken to the room by the manager and when he opened the door we expected to go directly into the room NO a set of stairs led up to the room but what a room everything sparkled from the wooden floor to the brand new bathroom.
throughout the week there we had no problems the gardens are beautiful there's plenty of sunbeds a small pool and a staff service during the day for hot or alcoholic drinks with realistic charges €1.00 for a pot of tea or coffee and a self service fridge for non-alcoholic drinks
Breakfast was the usual self service continental plus a hot alternative generally for couples but our room was capable of taking a family Food outside of the hotel was expensive but by shopping around you could get better prices with good quality

Room Tip: room 44 newly renovated april 2013 could possibly sleep 4 people as there were two partitioned area...

Stayed here for 2 weeks early April. Had been very recently redecorated throughout so everything was in very good condition with a blend of modern white and traditional dark wood furniture.Room(standard with balcony) was a generous size with a kettle/cups provided.Bathroom was a good size too and had a large walk in shower with decent power. Balcony was small . Beds changed twice a week and towels changed as often as you like. They can also provide towels for the pool-just ask at reception. Safety deposit box available at reception and there is also a computer there should you wish to use it. Wifi was updated during our stay so is now available in some rooms as well as the lounge area. New patio furniture also arrived during our stay with the new wicker sun loungers sporting very comfortable thick cushions.Staff were outstanding.Honesty bar provided exceptionally good value drinks and snacks.
Good location with plenty of restaurants in the area and bus stop nearby. Would deffinately stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in 46 which was very quiet

Most of the hotels in Funchal seem to be of the concrete block variety, but the Vila Vicencia, hidden behind a locked garden door, is a real gem. It consists of three traditional villas set in a garden full of flowers. If you go for sanitised luxury this might not be for you, but our room was spacious, comfortable, and had a lounge area and balcony as well as the large bedroom. Behind the breakfast room is a cosy lounge, and the hotel employs a night porter whose functions are keeping the log fire roaring (this WAS February!) and serving drinks to guests; in fact the temptation to indulge in a nightcap after returning from dinner in Funchal proved irresistible most evenings. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and we would definitely recommend a stay in this hotel. It is situated around 25 minutes' walk from the centre of Funchal, but there are frequent buses and there are many good restaurants close by if you don't fancy the trip in the evening . If you decide to take any excursions we'd advise ignoring the lure of holiday reps whose offerings tend to be pricey and full of English moaners! Instead go down the hill from the Vila Vicencia, turn right and go into the small shopping mall where you will find Madeira Happy Tours whose trips and organised walking days we found excellent and really good value. And don't get me started on how exquisite the flowers are, all over the island ...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.
