Our second time at this hotel - the last occasion we tried the hotel was fulll and we had to go elsewhere.
Standards are even higher than before with every little detail taken care of, the rooms are superb and are cleaned, presented and maintained to an exacting standard. The staff are wonderfull from pool boy to Manager all had smiles and words on every encounter.

The location is tranquill which drew us back but handy enough (10-15 minutes by bus - tip buy a 7 day pass)
for the centre of Funchal and its wonderfull restaurants.

The hotel overlooks the cliff walk f rom the lido to Formosa if you wish to strertch your legs locally (access from hotel at pool level).

Breakfast buffet was fresh and regularly replenished - tip the poached eggs in individual ramakins are to die for!

This is a small hotel (60 Bedrooms) which we have visited a number of times for Christmas and New Year Holidays.
The Director and her staff have all been at the hotel for several years so we return to enjoy their attentive and concientious service.
The bedrooms and the Resturant are first class. The facilities for swimming, exercise and for sun bathing are very good.
The Hotel is conveniently located for visiting the city , for local seaside walks and for access to a range of shops and resturamts. Buses to the city and to points further afield, from the nearby bus stops, are frequent and inexpensive.
If you are looking for a "comfortable" hotel, where the helpful staff will attend to all your requirements the Regency Cliff can't be beaten.

We chose this hotel as family had stayed there last June and been impressed.

We booked our flight with Easyjet from Stansted and the hotel via Thomson, as rates were excellent.

The hotel reception staff were very welcoming and informative and, as some of our party had stayed there before, we received room upgrades and complimentary bottles of Madeira wine - a very nice touch.

Rooms & bathrooms were very clean, spacious and well appointed - a selection of tea/coffee, bath robes, shampoo/soap etc. Towels changed every day, although we didn't request this. Bed linen was changed regularly during our stay

Rooms were on the 5th floor (highest available) and had wonderful sea views. Very quiet - we enjoyed watching the sunrise every morning and the cruise ships sailing in & out.

Breakfast was lovely and a good choice, with fresh fruit, cereal, cooked selection, cold meats & cheese, croissants/pastries and home made muffins/toast etc. A great start to the day and we didn't need lunch at all during our stay!

The hotel restaurant looked nice and the menu appealing, but we preferred to eat in the local restaurants.

The swimming pools (outside & indoor) were small, but very clean and the water was warm. Towels were provided.

The walk into Funchal took around 45 mins, but there is also a regular free shuttle bus.

We loved the botanical gardens and recommend purchasing bus tickets in advance from the green hut near the cable car station as this is cheaper. We did walk to the orchid gardens, which were interesting, but a very steep climb we wouldn't repeat! The bus stops nearby in any case.

We liked this hotel as it had everything we expect from a 4 star, but wasn't big & impersonal. Staff were very friendly and helpful, everywhere was well presented and clean with a relaxing atmosphere. We would definately return and have already recommended the hotel to friends.

Having read excellent reviews of this hotel, I booked 4 nights December 26-29 this year via the website, paying an upfront rate 3 months in advance. Plan was 7 nights in Lido area 3 star hotel, special treat for wife and son to end the holiday for 4 nights in this hotel. Arrived to check in to be told "fully booked, you've been upgraded to another hotel". My "totally unacceptable" response was met by the manager as "unfortunate, sorry, nothing can do, other than offer dinner compensation". Ruined the holiday frankly staying in a faceless modern hotel as alternative so watch out anybody thinking of booking this hotel this way - don't pay upfront on their website ( its brokered by a local agent) as you may get "bumped" like my family did. Frankly totally unacceptable behaviour from what is obviously a very good hotel with good reputation.

we were in madeira last week and stayed at the madeira regency cliff hotel we had a truly wonderful week here. we went to celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on 4th november the hotel gave us a room upgrade free of charge and we had a beautiful room which was large and had a double aspect one side had 3 large windows and overlooked funchal the other side were patio doors onto the balcony overlooking the lido and the sea.we had a nice surprise on the 4th when we found a bottle of champagne on ice in our room with compliments of the management that was a lovely touch all the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times the food quality was excellent there was a good choice at breakfast and at night they had theme nights we stayed in for the "madeira" night and the food was very good.the hotel has a courtesy bus running every hour into the town and back but the bus stop is just outside the hotel and the taxi rank a few mins walk and costs 5 euros so its very easy to get into funchal. there as 2 good restaurants opposite hotel . the monumental grill and o almofeliz and a few mins away is the madeira forum shopping centre which has 3 floors of shops they have lots of cafe s and restaurants a good variety of shops including a hypermarket on the lower ground floor. we took the open top bus tour which costs 10 euros each and does you for 2 days and is hop on hop off the 16th stop is the one outside the hotel. we also did the cable car trip up to monte and back (we did not fancy hurtling down the hill in the sledges!!!!!!!) this costs 14.5 euros each we also did the west coast and mountain trip through our rep this was well worth it and was a full day. overall we had a fantastic trip which gave us a lot of happy memories and i am sure you will too if you stay at this wonderful hotel.

Week stay 15th Sept to 22nd Sept.Superior room, balcony and sea and lido view.
The hotel has first class fixtures and fittings and offers fantastic accomadation, and meals, and leisure facilities.
The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful.
Though 3 or so Kilometres from the town centre of Funchal it is easily walkable, but there is a courtesy bus available every few hours.
The local bus service is good though tends to be rather full and standing room only.
restuarants in the area are variable and can be hit or miss, the Monumental restuarant, just opposite,is worth a visit.
Bedroom fixtures were good and contributed to the hotel star rating.
fully recommend this hotel and worthy of a repeat week

A lovely hotel in an excellent situation. Everywhere is clean and very well maintained.
Breakfast was varied and plentiful.
Room is spacious with lovely sea views.
Frequent local buses to town, tho' for 4 of us, taxis were almost as cheap and there is a rank about 25 yds away.
Large shopping centre across the road with some 'chain' snack bars etc.
Also local restaurants across the road and along the promenade (either way) - all the ones we tried were good.
Only one slight complaint - the restaurant/bars seemed understaffed. The staff were unfailingly pleasant but seemed frazzled at times. Reception, meanwhile, usually had far more staff than customers!

Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
