Definitely not a five star hotel.
Felt very disappointed in this hotel having booked expecting a bit of luxury to celebrate a special occasion.
Hardly any staff throughout the day........average breakfast selections, individual requests not available on most days.
The main bar was never staffed and the pool bar only from 1pm for the afternoon - no pool side service at all.
On arrival no pillows on the bed and surprise that we needed any!
Got the distinct impression that this place may be on the verge of closure or on a tight budget.
We really feel not good value for the money.
Best way to get to town was the frequent bus services with a multi day ticket as shuttle bus from hotel very limited.

Room Tip: Ask for view of the ocean.

We came here for our honeymoon after staying at Summerplace guest house on thr West side of the Island and were hugely disappointed. Not only did we spend double the money to stay here we received less than half the services. Room was big, not particularly clean and with old carpets I was allergic to. No Wifi in the rooms? I don't understand how a 5 star hotel can not even have an pay option to have Wifi. I read previous reviews noting this and so I called and was told it was a particular week - not true since we didn't have Internet either. Breakfast was fine, but not even close to the one we had at Summerplace earlier in the week. The spa is old and only the sauna worked when we were here. Location was ok because we had a car but I wish we had spent our last night at summerplace and saved our money!

Just arrived back from a lovely stay in Madeira. We had a taxi transfer to the hotel and were individually greeted by the reception staff.
David welcomed us to the hotel and it was as lovely as the brochure pictures. It was the first time we had stayed in a small hotel and really enjoyed it. We had booked a garden room but had been upgraded to a room with a panoramic view. The room was very spacious and had the usual toiletries and hair dryer but in addition the use of large fluffy bathrobes and slippers. You can request tea making facilities in your room as we did, at no extra charge.
Everywhere was spotlessly clean throughout the hotel and staff were very friendly, the only thing was in the day staff were hard to find and you had to search for them when you wanted a drink.
There were plenty of sun beds and no one put towels out to save beds which was a nice change, towels were supplied by the hotel.
we only had breakfast at the hotel but there was plenty of choice of the usual fruit or cereals or a cooked breakfast. It was lovely having breakfast on the terrace over looking Funchal.
We chose to go into Funchal at night for our evening meal as there are numerous restaurant of good quality we particularly liked Violino in the old town. There is a mini bus supplied by the hotel you can book throughout the day free of charge to take you into Funchal and collect you at set times this does not run in the evening but a taxi was only 6 euros.
There is plenty to do in Maderia we travelled up on the cable car and down the mountain in the toboggan a great experience. We also had afternoon tea at Reids Palace one of the first hotels in Maderia and frequented by Winston Churchill. The hotel was absolutely lovely and Maderia is very unspoilt wherever you go on the island. We can't wait to return

Room Tip: We had room 207 which had panoramic view and was lovely the higher up you go the more view you get, so room 407 had even better views but all rooms have a nice view.

I would not rate this hotel as 5-star. The room was large and bright and was nice and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. However, there were some issues. The website promised a shuttle service to the town. Unfortuantely the bus only went a few times per day at a fixed hour and you had to reserve in advance. We found ourselves spending a huge amount of money on taxis, which we handn't planned on. Walking to/from town was not an option. This is obviously not aprobelm if you have a rental car. Choice at breakfast was quite limited. If you wanted any tourst information, you had to ask for it. All in all ok, but not great.

a very beautiful hotel, architecture, gardens, swmimming pool
very clean
nice location, but a car is a good help
High level restaurant, very nice terrass, excquisite food, very diverse and not too fat
Just one point to better : touristic information and hlepfullness : not the level of a 5 stars hotel

Room Tip: ask for a panaroma room, a little expensive but very nice and impressive
