Owner description: We love our island and love to show and give you the REAL Madeira on our tours, always done by a certified guide, on our food tours, guided walks or in our open classic UMM jeeps, all done in a very calm safe and relaxed way, private or shared with others(max 6 or 8 persons). So if the idea of exploring this amazing island supporting local economy far away of the hudge groups and cheesy souvenir shops and jeeps convoys who see you as one more number, and if you are brave enough to leave your cosy sofa, to really live Madeira, take a ride with us! Beliving that working this way to give all our hearth and attention to what we do and with a very small percentage of travelers traveling with us,(comparing to many other big tour providers who were listed before us) we have been making every day new friends, who then spend time, writing back leaving feedback, that way keeping ourselfs on business, doing what we love the most and keeping us #1st on tripadvisor for all this years. THANK YOU!

Our friend who is from Madiera booked this as a wedding present whilst we were on our honeymoon. It was a truly fantastic experience and Nicolau was an amazing and friendly guide. If you are worried about driving on some dodgy terrain or on mountain side roads, he puts you at ease straight away with is friendly personality and professional attitude. His knowledge of the island and the sights he shows you are amazing. Looking down on the clouds was an unforgettable experience. He takes you to places that are off the beaten track (literally) and are genuine spots for local people - at local prices. The cost is a bargain. The day passed so quickly as we had so much fun. Meeting 4 new people was also lovely and Nicolau speaks several languages so everyone got the same experience and knowledge. A must do activity if you really want to experience Madiera.

My family of 5 took this tour during our 7 night stay in Funchal. We all agreed that this was our best day in Madeira, I cannot sing Nick's praises enough, he is an absolutely brilliant people person, making each one of us feel at ease. His fantastic little 4 x 4 (sorry Nick, I mean BIG BEAST!), picked us up on a beautiful sunny morning and proceeded to take us on the adventure of our lives. We took the west tour and we were continuously thrilled, charmed and intrigued by Nick's knowledge and passion for his home land. We passed many boring yellow taxis on our journey and they all looked enviably upon our open top wagon, with our hair blowing and smiles from ear to ear! This really is a personal tour, we were fortunate as a family of 5 to have Nick all to ourselves. I have to say, if you do even just one thing on this glorious island- then make sure it's one of Nicks unique and heartwarming tours. He's a one man band with a difference and you'll create many memories you shall never forget!

We where treated to a tour of the western side of the island by Nicolau and all agreed that it was by far the best excursion we have ever been on, anywhere. This did not feel like any ordinary trip but more like a day out with an old friend and his beloved jeep; Nicolau has a knowledge and passion for his island which is very infectious. The whole day was taken at a leisurely pace being able to stop and ask questions or take pictures at any time, everyone in the jeep was treated as an individual as opposed to a 'customer'. The views from the top of the island are truly stunning and strengthened my views on the beauty of Madeira. If you visit the island make sure you get in touch with these guys.

Family of 4 with two children (ages 16 and 12). Note: the 16 year-old is writing this review.
Mum saw the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and decided we should do a half-day jeep tour. Naturally, being a teenager, I thought 'Jeep Tour? BORING!' I honestly thought it would be like every other tour where you look at boring things while being talked at by a boring tour guide. HOWEVER I am very happy to say I WAS WRONG!
We did a half-day tour in the west of the island with Ricardo and we all loved every minute of it! Couldn't have asked for a better guide - Ricardo was really friendly and it didn't feel like a typical tour at all; more like a friend showing you around the island in an open-top jeep. We spent most of the day laughing and smiling. Definitely money well spent!

So, yet another glowing review, but if you wonder why I'll discuss our 2 day trips. We were a group 6, ages from 15 to 80 and after reading the other reviews decided to book two full days confirmed through emails with Nicolau.
We arranged to be picked up on the first day at 9:15am and following a brief discussion amongst the group we agreed we'd go east. Nicolau ensured we had swim wear and towels a
climbed into what is Nicolau's pride and joy, his jeep. Nicolau was happy to engage in any topic we threw out and his banter was both interesting and knowledgeable. After 45mins and some interesting stops, we turned off the roads and entered the tracks and wilderness of rural Madeira. Nicolau's knowledge of the plants, herbs and where he was going was so much fun. Eventually we popped out at the plateau were we dropped into a cafe from a pit stop. We eventually arrived at Porto Moniz for a swim and lunch. Nicolau picked us up as agreed and we drove back using more tracks and roads, as Nicolau states, it may not be fast but his jeep goes anywhere and he was right. As a final hurrah we dropped into a local bar were we were tempted by a glass of local poncha Wow! We arrived back grinning from ear to ear, not by the drink but by the whole day and the new friend we had found in Madeira.

We saw Nicolau 3 days later and this time we travelled west not expecting the day to top the first, wrong! The fun, laughter and sights were breathtaking and the route to the pico de arieiro was stunning. Our day continued with a drive through the rural farming area on back roads and tracks not suitable for anything other than a tractor or 4x4. The sights and smells will stay with us all for a very long time. Eventually we popped out in Santana, Nicolau had called ahead to arrange lunch in a restaurant frequented by locals were the local dish of espetada with everything thrown in, you can't miss this it was a feast to behold. We ended with a walk into the village a tour of the local church and our friend Nicolau there in his jeep to pick us up and whisk us off for more sights, chat and laughter.

We ended our day in a local bar sampling more local drinks and customs which after a long day in the open with Up Mountain Madeira and the famous open topped jeep was very welcome, the end came too soon and we all agreed the two days spent were very special and probably not going to be topped, we were right.

So if you're going to Madeira and are planning a day out but not quite sure how or what you're after, it's here, you will not get a better experience or value than a day with Nicolau, someone who loves Madeira and knows how to share this with everyone.
