Owner description: We love our island and love to show and give you the REAL Madeira on our tours, always done by a certified guide, on our food tours, guided walks or in our open classic UMM jeeps, all done in a very calm safe and relaxed way, private or shared with others(max 6 or 8 persons). So if the idea of exploring this amazing island supporting local economy far away of the hudge groups and cheesy souvenir shops and jeeps convoys who see you as one more number, and if you are brave enough to leave your cosy sofa, to really live Madeira, take a ride with us! Beliving that working this way to give all our hearth and attention to what we do and with a very small percentage of travelers traveling with us,(comparing to many other big tour providers who were listed before us) we have been making every day new friends, who then spend time, writing back leaving feedback, that way keeping ourselfs on business, doing what we love the most and keeping us #1st on tripadvisor for all this years. THANK YOU!

We have to agree with all of the other reviews. We finished the trip 30 mins ago and couldn't wait to recommend it. We spent the day learning about the real Madeira, seeing some incredible views and avoiding the commercial tourist traps. Lovely hearty meal in traditional restaurant with the locals. It's a good way to get to know the island, and meet some interesting people along the way. Good value for money.

We had set out to do Canyoning in Madeira on our cruise port of call. Unfortunately, there was a mix up with our canyoning reservation, and we could not go. We were so bummed but we booked this instead. I feel that it was the best thing that could have happened, because we had such an amazing time!
We drove in an open top jeep, with our two kids, ages 11&13. We stood up most of the time, with out heads out the top of the jeep....seeing all the amazing landscapes with nothing in the way! I have to the most amazing video coverage for my movie! Our driver, Nicolau, one of the owners, was so awesome! He is very familiar with the area, fun to talk to and made our trip priceless! We stopped at some of the attractions, the cliff, the cable car, a store he owns for a complimentary taste of Madeira wine and desert. We never felt rushed, and he let us take our time. He drove us all over the island, showing us the incredible detail and beauty that Madeira has. The farms, the forest, and along the way he told us stories and history. We were with him several hours, and we never got bored! We had the best time. When our tour was over, he gave us a great recommendation for a place to eat in town, Restaurant Londres and he dropped us off there. We accidentally left our camera bag in his truck, and in just a few minutes after dropping us off, he came back to give it to us...we had no way to call him, I am so grateful for him! A very good man...Thank you Nicolau for a very memorable trip! You are a gem! We wanted to take him home! But he has a family who needs him more than we do...

Up Mountain Madeira don't have an office. They(Nicolau) are contacted by phone or via their website. I arranged to go on a jeep safari to the East by e-mail and communication was excellent.
I can only agree with all of the nice things previously said about Nicolau and Up Mountain Madeira, but a few little extra things which made the day extra special for me were, Nicolau arrived on time, introduced himself and for the rest of the day addressed everyone by name. As I have been to Madeira so many times, he took it as a challenge to show me things, and teach me things I didn't already know. He succeeded with both of these. There were people on the jeep who were geocaching and I learned all about that too. The best bit for me was lunchtime, when we were invited to join Nicolau for lunch, which was a very jolly affair. Lunch was delicious and Nicolau happily answered all our questions and kept us all amused. Had a great day. Obrigada Nicolau.

We took the west-tour and had a really great day with Ricardo, the guide. Saw a lot of places that we would never have seen by ourselves. The tour took us from Funchal to Porto Moniz and back via Sao Vicente and Serra de Agua. Our best recommendation if you wish to see the island without driving the steep roads and mountains yourselves.

just returned from our trip with Nicolau. what a great day, from the very start you were at ease and ready for the day ahead. nothing to disappoint even the weather was great from start to finish. a little cloud mist to cool us off a touch. the banter and expertise of nicolau meant we were not only looking at the great scenery but listening to a commentary of the area and fauna. the lunch in Santana was local and very tasty. there was a stop for coffee and a final stop for a taste of poncha just before returning to our hotel. one more thing added to the relaxed atmosphere of the day and that was Nicolau's other guests on the trip. everyone got on so well it quickly seemed that we were traveling with old friends. what can i say, a great day. if you are thinking about this type of trip while on the island, Go with Nicolau. you will love it.
