On the opposite side of the road to the Porto Mare and Melia Madeira you can enjoy good priced food and drinks visited by locals and tourists alike. Enormous home made sandwiches at 3.5 e, large beer at 2.5 euros and other drinks approx half price of hotels. Yes its a bit on the small size and gets busy at times but well worth a visit.

Our rep at the Pestana Promenade suggested that we try this restaurant on our first night as we were keen to find somewhere frequented by the locals. We were made extremely welcome, so much so that we decided to eat here on most nights of our two week stay... it was that good! The food is simple but excellent. We made the mistake of both ordering a pizza on our first visit... wonderful food (and the first time we have had banana as a topping!) but enormous portions. Kindly the staff boxed up the food we couldn't eat and we enjoyed this again for lunch the next day.
Very quickly we felt like locals ourselves and it was quite clear that customers were visiting time and time again. This was the only restaurant in this area that did not tout for business...they didn't need to as it was always busy... even at breakfast time.
Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Bella Ilha...outstanding!

Just had the usual beautiful meal here. We have never been disappointed. The food is cooked fresh to order so the service might seem a bit slow but it is worth it. We eat here a few times each holiday and look forward to returning. The staff are so friendly and always remember us. Well worth a visit - and not too pricey!

Food took over an hour to arrive. The menu looked good but did not live up to expectations. The barbecue chicken was awful - not barbecue at all, the pork chop with pineapple was ok. It was so bad that they gave us our meal for free. Really disappointing - also recommended by the rep (unbelievably).
