“Peaceful and perfect”
Reviewed September 30, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for a week in early September and found the Quinta peaceful and mentally therapeutic.

Took other reviewers advice and booked garden rooms with small patios and loungers, which was helpful. There isn't complete privacy in these areas, but I could see what reviewers meant, as the more luxurious rooms are nicer inside but are a bit restricted view wise, and just have seats in their balconies.

The garden rooms are quite old fashioned and could do with kettles and complimentary mineral water, but I thought they were quite retro and liked the atmosphere. All guests at the hotel seem to conform to the peaceful and calm vibe, which is great if that's your ideal. A majority were French when we stayed and were a polite and reserved group.

We never ate at the restaurant and heard from other guests that it was very good but didn't vary enough throughout the week. Breakfast was very pleasant and the views to the sensational gardens were fantastic.

Staff throughout were excellent and unfailingly helpful. The views from the bar at night were sensational though the bar is quite expensive and a bit slow.

The Quinta has a position quite near town, and is downhill all the way. Taxi's are cheap and absolutely plentiful, so don't bother struggling back vertically!

The old town is by far the nicest place to eat with massive choice. The Fortaleza is sensational and you can hire a vintage car to pick you up for 15 Euros. Recommended highly.

There is a lot of work going on in the centre of town to alleviate the effects of the massive flooding that took place in 2011. There is also a new harbour being built.

Overall, Madeira is beautiful and Funchal is chic and interesting, and certainly doesn't conform to the myth that it's an older persons place.

The Quinta is one of the nicest and certainly the most peaceful and calming place I've ever stayed in.

Would go back anytime, and unconditionally recommended.

We stayed at the quinta da casa branca and overall it is a lovely small hotel. However there are a few things that I would query being given the 5 star rating. Firstly we upgraded to a premium room and for that we were entitled to tea and Coffee making facilities, but were only allowed 4 individual milks 2 sugars, tea bags and coffee per day. When I asked for more milk they said I would have to pay 50 cents each for them, which I fing amazing after paying over £2,000 for the holiday! also the bed was extemley hard and the pillows were feather which were very hard, my husband and I ended up with aches anad pains by the end of the holiday. The breakfast was good, but if you wanted a hot breakfast you had to pay for it, again Amazing! I have stayed in 5 star hotels many times before and have never had to pay for these extras. I was under the impession that with the 5 star rating this was all included. Finally the Minibar was very sparse. 1 of each beer, coke(diet and ordinary), sprite, water (fizzy and still).
One thing I must agree with though that the staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: just choose a garden room and take a kettle with you.

The perfect combination of 5 star luxury and friendly/personal service. Can't recommend this place highly enough, an oasis of calm on the outskirts of bustling Funchal yet near enough to visit the City to see the sights or for an evening out. The pool area is lovely and something of a sun trap with plenty of towels provided. The buffet breakfast was very good although rarely had any of the English Breakfast type food aside from scrambled eggs which were perfect! There was an excellent variety of food available at breakfast, all fresh and plentiful. We ate lunch and dinner at the hotel just once both of which were very good. We were there for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and ate dinner at the hotel that evening with complimentary fizz on arrival at dinner and a lovely finish touch to our meal was a specially prepared dessert. Very subtle but lovely touches which we both appreciated very much. The spa is also excellent and I can highly recommend especially as residents get 20% off! My OH used the gym which he said was small but well equipped for a proper work out. Last but not least the gardens were simply stunning! Oh and all of the staff were friendly yet supremely professional.

Room Tip: If we were to go again we would probably go for a standard room rather than the premium room we had...

This is an oasis of five star tranquillity. Beautiful immaculate gardens leading to a secluded swimming pool.
A buffet breakfast room with terrace just to add to the all round ambiance.

Whilst the traditional Quinta exists as an exquisite restaurant, the mail hotel complex is very modern in style and design.

All the staff are attentive and no question is too trivial.

For peace and quiet in luxury surroundings this Quinta beats all the other Funchal resort complexes into a cocked hat.

We stayed here for a week and never failed to be impressed by the unfailingly courtesy we were shown and hospitality beyond reproach. We stayed in a garden room, which interestingly did not have DVD or tea making facilities. However we knew this beforehand as per the hotel web site and brought an iPad and kettle. In fact we preferred the garden room opening straight on to the lawn, so, we feel, got the best of both worlds at the lower price. The room was well appointed and immaculately clean. Breakfast was more than adequate and featured an extensive buffet as well as items such as eggs to order. The staff were friendly without being familiar and it was a treat to come from Northern Europe and eat breakfast out of doors overlooking the extensive and well groomed gardens featuring a host of plants and flowers. We had lunch here one day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is a heated swimming pool and a spa featuring jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The front desk staff were always solicitous as to our enjoyment and helpful in the extreme. The ultimate commendation is that we are returning next year. Very highly recommended.

We spent a week at Quinta da Casa Branca this September. It a wonderful hotel in a well maintained garden. It is an unusual style so much more attractive than the majority of hotels along the sea front! The flowers and plants are beautiful! We were upgraded to a superior room which was excellent! The staff are really helpful and friendly especially the garden restaurant staff! The Casa da Branco main restaurant was extremely good, we had two superb meals there!!we would thoroughly recommend a visit!

My wife and I spent two weeks on a bed and breakfast basis at the Quinta da Casa Branca in August. It is a small quiet unpretentious hotel set in beautiful well-maintained gardens and hidden from passing traffic that fully deserves its five star rating. It is definitely not a brash hotel that gets stars for tacky entertainment. All the staff are friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in the so-called hotel zone, about half an hour's walk from the centre of Funchal. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel.

Our basic room on the ground floor was spacious, with everything you would expect from five star accommodation. The bathroom had plenty of toiletries, bathrobes and towels, and there were plenty of towels to use at the pool. The room had a small private "terrace" with direct access to the gardens.

The buffet breakfast at the Garden Pavilion was excellent, and it is possible to eat breakfast on a terrace outside. We had one superb evening meal in the main restaurant.

Facilities include a well-stocked library (especially for British and German guests) with complimentary internet connection for those holiday-makers who do not have all-singing, all-dancing smartphones, a cocktail bar next to reception, a small gym, a spa/health club and a heated outdoor swimming pool.

Any faults? If you want to nit-pick - the pool area can become crowded at times (but just go back to your own terrace and relax and try again later), and one or two places need a lick of paint.

There are many good restaurants nearby, including O Dragoeira (where a wonderful old gentleman invites you in!), Sebastian come Tudo, and the excellent Olives. If you want a day trip we would recommend Lido Tours.

A perfect hotel for a truly relaxing holiday.
