We ate here twice while staying at the Quinta da Casa Branca Hotel. Food is excellent and there is a recommended glass of wine with each course (with no giving the wine list as soon as you sit down and no pressure to buy a bottle). Reasonable selection for each course and quite an intimate restaurant atmosphere. A little off the beaten track if staying in the centre of Funchal but well worth a visit and particularly so if you are at the Reids end of town. In the summer there is the added benefit of the lovely gardens attached to the Quinta to enjoy before dining.

Food was very rich, to rich if you have delicate stomach. Quite expensive, but probably worth it if you like very fine dining.

We had the gastronomic menu with wine, it made a most memorable meal for our last evening in Madeira. The murshroom soup was tasty and the deserts unforgetable. Yum, yum

We love the Casa da Quinta hotel and this restaurant, which sits in the grounds, has many special qualities, but it falls short of expectation and is over-priced. Visually, the restaurant has instant appeal - elegant, sophisticated and stylish. The service is also outstanding - efficient, without being too stuffy. Unfortunately, the food is just not up to the mark. Had a seafood ravioli starter, which tasted delicious, but was swimming in sauce. Then blackened pork loins, which were unbelievably good, but also accompanied by three pools of liquidised something or other which had the texture of baby food. Best feature was that the menu recommmended different local wines by the glass to accompany each course, so you can sample lots rather then buying a single bottle. This restaurant could easily step up a few levels, but someone needs to tell the chef to step with all the plates of sauce!

This elegant restaurant forms part of the excellent Hotel Quinta Da Casa Branca, but is freely open to non residents, having its own street entrance.

You have the choise of dining on the outside terrace, ppffering magical views of the Quinta's many acres of beautiful subtropical park, or within the lovely historic house.

Which ever you choose, you will experience fine dining at its very very best.

Beautiful table setting of fine porcelain, Italian silver, and modern crystal glassware, set on starched white linen table cloths with matching napkins.

The service is everything you would expect from a five star hotel, discrete, yet attentive.

The limited menu offers excellent starters, vegetarian, excellent meats, and superbly fresh fish, always cooked to order and as you request it.

The wide ranging wine list of carefully selected portugues wines, gives a wide choice of white, red, or rose wines, from all regions, amazingly with can all be selected by the bottle, or glass. And a very generous glass to, being 175ml, not the mean 125ml often served in some UK 5 star hotels. This choice also extends to the house champagne, Pol Roger.

When choosing ones meal, a wine is recommended for each course chosen, with the price of a glass clearly shown on the menu.

For a romantic three hour supper, I cannot imagine a better setting. And amazing value. We were dining regularly, two courses each and a bottle of excellent white with our fish starter, followed by a memorable bottle of red with our main course, averaged the equivalent £75, for two courses and two full bottles of fine wine!
