Description: Restaurant Mozart is born of a perfect symphony between Rui Pedro, Renato, the Telesforo and all elements of the orchestra every day color the sound of the strings violin sprawling on the wall beside the great figures of the music classical. This name is a tribute to Madeira restoration. Situated in one of the most emblematic areas of Funchal, the Old Town, the Mozart Restaurant with a decoration taken to detail, in a style reminiscent of the Classical Era, lives an atmosphere, an atmosphere of refinement and yet familiar, with attention to detail and a team that although young is too experienced to play the ninth symphony of Mozart. This signature cuisine specializes in dishes whose essence carries various flavors and aromas in a real world full of colors. This signature cuisine inspired by the regional, national and international cuisine not only conveys to each of our clients sound and harmony, but above all provides strong and emotional palate.

“Absolutely wonderful food, atmosphere and value”

My wife and I were recommended this restaurant by a couple we met at the Reid's Palace Dinner Dance (see separate review), and it did not disappoint at all. I can only think that the restaurant has read the (very few) recent couple of bad reviews and corrected everything. We had the €37 concept menu - any choice of three courses of the a la carte menu, sparkling wine, amuse bouche, refreshing sorbet, white wine with the starter, red wine with the main course, water, a spirit with dessert and coffee. The value is just ridiculous...not least as the wine was constantly topped up by a very polite and knowledgable sommelier. I must admit to being quite drunk by the end of the evening...it is basically down to you as to how much you drink. The best bit of all is the food though - it was absolutely delicious - all of it. The beef fillet was absolutely enormous and cooked to perfection. It really was an incredible meal, and in a lovely atmosphere too (with live violin music). I would not hesitate to recommend this to anybody - a real find!

“Star of Funchal”

Superb food, superb atmosphere, superb service. The experience of eating at Mozarts is like fine dining without the pretension and it's not expensive for the quality and variety you receive. We ate there the Friday and Sunday before our return to the UK and only wish we had discovered it earlier.
This restaurant acts like a beacon to what the mediocre should aspire to.

“Try getting a meal like this in the UK for £31 !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

In Maderia again for 3 weeks and a visit to Mozarts doesn't disappoint
We went 3 times with friends and once by ourselves as our final meal before going home
"Mr Mozart" (Simone) was his usually jolly self which lightens up the evening. He was not there on our last night and we missed him. They now have a lady violinist playing on some nights and she is very good and adds to the atmosphere. Food was excellent as usual and along with the all inclusive wine, bubbly, water and coffee it is certainly good value for money. Will now have to wait another 12 months before visiting again, can't wait

“A fun evening with good food and wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

First impressions are so important - we were met at the door by a guy dressed up in a wig and frock coat, which made me groan inside, but the circular table set for seven was nicely done and the maître d' was friendly and helpful. Drinks appeared quickly - a glass of Portuguese bubbly that was too sweet and needed to be much colder to dull the taste. The menu, however, was interesting, with a good selection of fish and meat. I have to say that the starters were both delicious and presented with considerable flair - the prawn cocktail was enjoyed by several, and my smoked ham was both good quality and accompanied by nice melon balls and some sculptured apple. The white wine was acceptable and the right temperature. Main courses were also well received - my duck breast was perfectly cooked and nicely presented - rack of lamb likewise. The red wine was surprisingly good, and kept coming. Desserts were nicely presented, and I could find no fault with the carpaccio of pineapple with ice cream and a biscuit base.
Service was friendly and efficient - a total contrast to the sister restaurant where the head waiter's folie de grandeur was just too much to bear.
Music was provided by a delightful lady violinist who entertained us throughout. The only jarring note was her backing music, which did not do justice to her spirited performance.
As for the bewigged greeter and his clowning antics - I'm still not sure about him. Those tables (like ours) having a high-spirited good time found him amusing, but it was clear that some of the diners did not share our view.
A temple to fine food and wine this restaurant most certainly is not, and it would be a mistake to take everything too seriously. But for a group of English diners wanting good food, drinkable wine and good entertainment it was near perfect - we left with big smiles saying how nice it had been.
Value for money? 37€ for three courses with frequently replenished wine - definitely.
