We booked a beginners canyoning tour only a couple of days prior to our trip and Ruby got back to us right away to confirm. Hugo and Ruby picked us up at our hotel, made sure we had the correct clothes & footwear and drove us to the canyoning location. They gave us wetsuits which came in very handy due to the cold water temps! Hugo gave us a short lesson and eased any safety concerns we had. Throughout the canyoning adventure, Ruby and Hugo made us feel very safe and comfortable and encouraged us along the way. They shared stories with us and taught us about canyoning and about the area we were in and were a pleasure to spend the day with! To do this activity, the only skill you have to have is being able to walk. Anyone can do this! We were so excited to receive the pictures after our tour as well. Thank you to Ruby and Hugo for an unforgettable experience!!

I wrote "Harmony in Nature" regarding a moderate-level canyoning trip, just a few days prior to our arrival in mid january 2013.
Ruby, one of the two owners, was quick to reply and told me that unfortunately a big storm in november of 2012, had ravaged the moderate-canyon in the northern part of the island called "Pedra Branca" (meaning "White Stone"), so they had to go check if everything was OK, before they could book us for a trip. They then spend the next two days reconstructing their abseiling setup in the canyon and test it out for safety, and then booked us for a trip on the following friday.
Me and my girlfriend was picked up at our hotel in the morning along with one other participant, and we then drove for about 45 minutes to the start of the canyoning. All three of us had some prior experience abseiling, but was given a good fresh-up on safety and abseiling techniques. From the starting point at the coast, we walked for about 20 minutes up to the beginning of the canyon itself and dressed in wetsuits, helmets, harnesses etc. Then we began our descent, which included eight abseils, the second of which was down a 52 meter high waterfall - pretty amazing, even for experienced canyoneers.
Although our guides told us that the canyon had been much prettier before it was "washed" clean of much of its flora in the storm, it was still quite spectacular and it was cool to be the first ones to see the "new" layout of the canyon, including boulders and heavy stones that had been flushed down the canyon creating new obstacles - and the many twists and turns that showed the true power of nature.
The canyon comes to a stop with a beautiful view of the sea, from where you do the last waterfall abseil, 30 meters high.
Altogether the trip took about 6 hours, of which 3.5 hours was active canyoning. The price was just 80€ and included transport from Funchal, water, chocolate and pictures being taken by the two guides, Hugo and Ruby, throughout the whole canyon trip.

I will recommend "Harmony in Nature" to anyone looking for a different experience on Madeira - especially if you're not afraid of heights ;)

Definitely the best part of our trip to Madeira. Ruby and Hugo were wonderful guides and teachers, working with us one-on-one to make sure we felt comfortable on our first canyoning experience. We were happily surprised that everything is included in the price including pictures taken by the guides. Truly worth every cent and more, an unforgettable experience that only makes us want to go canyoning again!
