You could spends hours here. Great variety of plants and scenery. We wished we had gone earlier in the day so we could have savoured the place a bit more. We came here in the cable car, combined ticket of 23.75 euros with entrance and return on the cable. Not to be missed.

“Interesting and unusual”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

This garden is laid out over many terraces on the hillside looking down from Monte over Funchal. Apart from the Flora there were many different architectural features with some being more realistic than others. It was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours especially with the gratis wine tasting available at the cafe near to the end of the garden. There are fortunately also several WCs in the garden since water seems to be tinkling everywhere!

“Didn't go in but enjoyed walk around free areas”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

We didn't feel we wanted to spend money as the free areas around are lovely and on a sunny day...yes, we actually had one, it was lovely. Plenty to see!

“Outstanding garden”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Really lovely garden built in to the cleft of the mountain side. One wonders how they were able to do it. The Japanese garden was especially beautiful. Don't bother waiting for a sunny day to see it because while Funchal below can be sunny the mountain is often cloudy and misty when you get up there (unless you are lucky.) Well worth seeing though in any weather.
