“Stunning gardens with amazing views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Including lavender trees which are over a thousand years old these gardens are a haven of serenity and beauty.Situated at the top of the cable car they cover a wide area running down the hillside. With running streams , tropical fish ponds , ornamental statues, individual gardens and a lake with a grand house at the bottom complete with swans , a giant waterfall and views of Funchal to die for. There is also an interesting museum near the entrance which has carvings and statues and exhibitions on Madeiran life.

“Lovely lush gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

We enjoyed the gardens very much. The lush planting was beautiful. The azulejo (tile) panels depicting the kings and queens of Portugal were very interesting. I particularly liked the cycad display as I first encoundtered these in Australia and South Aftica and found them fascinating!

“Interesting and many tropical plants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

The garden is very hilly and requires a high level of fitness to explore all the levels. The Cafe with high views was a very welcome break by the time we got there.

“The best garden I have ever visited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Full of beautiful trees shrubs and flowers which thrive in Madeira's climate. There were also exhibitions, fabulous water features, fish and birds. Has miles of meandering paths and steps, I could have spent a whole day here - it was a lovely cool respite from the sun.
