In a peaceful setting around a fine house, these gardens are abundant in their stock. The visit was well worthwhile. They contrasted to Monte Palace in that they were true botanical gardens rather than a fantasy garden. A few rooms in the old house contain a somewhat ageing nature collection - quaint and characterful. The lower end of the garden houses some exotic birds in cages. There is quite a good cafe. Pity the person taking the entrance money was not more welcoming. This seems to be a characteristic in Maderia tourism, alas.
