Just returned from a fantastic 7 night stay at this hotel. When I asked my wife what she thought of it she simply said "100% amazing". So I've not much more to add. The other reviewers sum it up nicely.

However one of the things we particularly liked were the gardens, togther with the terraces down at sea level. You could laze around on a sun bed nice and private, without other guests being on top of you. We discovered by accident that the local lizards like sardine spread. So it became a daily ritual to buy some sardine spread from the Spa shop opposite the hotel and feed the lizards while we sun bathed. They went mad for it!

Beware if you are thinking of doing the 25 Fontes/Risco levada walk. You will probably encounter another 500 - 600 people doing the same walk and all starting off at roughly the same time. It takes 4.5 hours. There are no toilets and virtually no opportunities to sneak in to the bush for a comfort break as much of the walk has a precipice on one side and a sheer rock face on the other!

Room Tip: Garden Wing has really private balcolnies with stunning views over the ocean and Funchal.

We had a lovely four-night stay at Reid's Palace. We were met at the airport and seemingly moments later we were in a lovely room with a water view. Waiting for us was a decanter of Madeira and some local specialties. Very much appreciated was the complementary soft drinks in the minibar. The bathroon was all marble and extremely comfortable with more hot water than one can imagine. The pool area was lovely, the grounds even more so. I wish things were a smidge less expensive, but that's the worst thing I can say about it.

What an absolute gem this place is. We went for our wedding anniversary and can honestly say that this is one of the best places we have ever stayed and we have stayed at some very nice places around the globe. Service, quality, rooms, and restaurants were flawless. Indeed the food and service at the restaurants of the hotel was by far superior to the over-rated "Il Gallo d'Oro" restaurant which claims a Michelin star. If we could sum it up simply, it would be the phrase "attention to detail". Nothing was too much trouble and it felt like the staff had taken the time and trouble to care. We would have no hesitation in going back, and would highly recommend this to any discerning traveller. Frank & Denise.

Room Tip: Higher floors offer better views.

We have just spent 7 glorious days at Reids Palace and have already booked up to go again next year. Having stayed in some of the best hotels in the world I can honestly say that the Reids experience came out top. All the staff were so helpful and attentive nothing was too much trouble. The standard of dining was quite exceptional especially breakfast and dining in the Villa Cipriani. The hotel is without doubt unique in that it combines grace and elegance with an old world charm.

Room Tip: We were upgraded from a charming room to a classic and next year we have booked a classic romm.

The staff at Reids have perfected hotel management: fabulous classic decor, amazing staff in all areas, superb restaurants and old fashioned style! This year we stayed in a classic room in the older part of the hotel which, although smaller, we preferred to the deluxe. The suites are amazing too....just out of our price range! Looking forward to our next visit already and have no doubt we are going to become regulars.

is how Reid’s Palace has been described and I think that’s very apt – what a gorgeous hotel. I loved everything about it – it’s a real “grande dame” hotel with everything on a proper scale rather
than boutique size – made a lovely change in fact as usually I prefer boutique places.

The service is outstanding, the views are sublime, the food is excellent but best of all is the bathing area and sea pool on the cliff face. I adored heading down there to sunbathe – all very
civilised with changing rooms, showers and food and drinks service – and it was great to swim in the sea when it got too hot. There are metal ladders down into the sea and a pontoon to swim
to and sunbathe on – fab!

We liked that the hotel is only a 20 minute walk into Funchal so we did that a few times – it’s a pretty little place and nice to wander round the shops etc. We also took the cable car up to the
botanical gardens and then a toboggan down – brilliant fun although not for the faint hearted!

Go – you will love Reid’s – it’s beyond charming and I for one can’t wait to go back.

We stayed at Reid's Palace for a week in September following a recommendation from a friend who has visited the hotel regularly. If you are looking for a special hotel with superb customer service this is the hotel for you. The personal attention provided by Mr Campus, the hotel manager was exceptional. He went out of his way to ensure our stay was perfect.

The facilities at the hotel cater for all, the pools are of an exceptional quality in terms of cleanliness and the pool staff will provide you with individual attention e.g moving of sunbeds, parasols, provision of towels etc. The lift to the sea and sun decks only adds to the enjoyment of your stay.

Rooms differ in terms of views, size and facilities so ensure you speak with customer services if you have any specific requirement.

The interior of the hotel is impressive and very comfortable with evening entertainment provided.
The grounds and gardens of the hotel are lovely however there are a lot of steps and may limit the access for those with limited mobility.

Room Tip: Ask for high level rooms e.g level 7 and best view of sea is above main garden e.g, 766. The preside...
