We found this little gem looking for a place to have a lunch, early December, low season. Indeed, as one of the previous comments says, it needs some efforts to bring more clients: to pait the walls of surroundings buildings, maybe new tablecloths of more fancy cutlery or more lighting. We ate in the garden, so we haven't see the inside part. But this restaurant has for us several very important strong points:
~ the inside garden is beautiful and well kept, quite unexpected from the street
~ the waiters and very nice, efficient and discreet, no pressure at all
~ the food ~ our reason to visit this place ~ was very good. We had 2 different tipical soups and the tomatoe sup was great. Also we had peixe espada preta madeiran style, with thick salsa, and we liked this recipe for famous black scabbardfish best from all we've tried before
~ It's just in the center of Funchal
~ the price was more than rasonable, main dish costs 7/8 euros and the same quality at the marina you have for 12 euros, salads are for 4/5 euros soups for 1,5/3 euros, they have nice desserts
Probably the best time to go to dine there is summer. We will visit Jardim da Carreira at our next time at Madeira, best wishes to them! ;)
