Description: The Loja do Cha is a tea house located in a beautiful square with yellow painted buildings behind the famous Se Cathedral in the city centre of Funchal. . The Loja do Cha is perfect when looking for a break from traditional cafes in Madeira and is an excellent establishment characterized by charm and class. Also provides the possibility of sitting outside whilst relaxing and watching the passers-by. On store are wide ranges of teas including fruit teas uncommonly found in the island. Coffee is now also available. Serves light snacks such as quiche and sandwiches as well as delicious homemade sponge and fruit cakes, cheesecakes and scones to accompany your tea. Service is very friendly and staff are extremely knowledgeable about the world of tea. A highly recommended locale.

We visited this teahouse previously and were enthusiastic. But this year big disappointment... Poor service and coffee was even poorer. So we left to find another place for lunch.

... but that's the only thing instant here. Everything else is carefully selected, the furniture, the location and the selection of teas.

Not much of a tea-guy myself, I agreed with my better half to drink a cup of tea seated on the lovely square in front of the Tea House. And I have to admit that it was no sacrifice at all.

Enjoyed the promotional offer, a rough sandwich with grilled cheese, serves with loads of salad and a great black tea with coconut. A surprisingly good experience at a very reasonable price.

Staff is skilled and helpful, and by the way speak good English. So even if you usually stick to espresso DO give the Tea House a try.

In the "yellow square" not far from the back of the cathedral is this rather nice teashop with indoor seating and a very nice outdoor area. The re is a wide variety of chas to be had and quite excellent salads, other snacks and great cakes - the scones (pronounced SCONS} are fantastic. what a lovely spot, quiet restful and just nice.

This is a very pleasant little café with good friendly service and a decent tea selection. They also had a delicious chocolate Brownie with choc sauce on top which should not be missed!
