the food was absolutely gorgeous lovely and fresh.
we even had complementary courses and drinks for no reason.
the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
they went the extra mile and suggested ways of serving food and said that preordering certain items would be the best way of getting the best out of the dishes. the fish couldn't get much fresher unless you caught it yourself

This was our last meal out before we left for home the next day. It was near our hotel and we saw the reviews so gave it a try. We were not disappointed. We went late afternoon on the Sunday and were the only couple in there so it was quiet. The food was superb. I had the peppered steak and my wife had the lemon sole. They were accompanied by various vegetables. We both had desserts and we were given complimentary glasses of Madiera wine prior to leaving. All in all a good finish to the holiday. We would certainly go here again.

If you love sea food then this is a good place to eat but be warned it is not for small apetites the portions are huge. The staff are excelent and the prices are very reasonable two can eat for around 50 euros including wine.

Ate here on the first night of our holiday. The reception at the hotel had advised us not to eat a starter as the portions are BIG. They certainly are but did not mean that the quality was also very good. The head waiter was most helpful in helping us choose and was very knowledgable about fish. We shared a pudding - just and felt very satisfied. The prices were reasonable too. Recommended.

We make it a point to eat at Lareira Portuguesa every time we visit Madiera. The restaurant is lovely with well spaced tables and an attentive staff. Located just off Estrada Monumental.
The menu choices are varied and although fish is the specialty, our meat loving friends were very happy with their chicken dishes. My chef special fish dish consisted of 4 perfectly cooked fillets. Parrot Fish, Snapper, Espada and one other that I can't recall. It was beautifully presented with a grilled local Madeiran Banana. Wonderful! A real bargain at 13.90 Euros
My husband wanted the Paella but it is not served for one person so our server suggested the Arroz de Mariscos, seafood rice. The tureen that arrived at our table looked like it could feed all 4 of us but my husband managed to finish it and enjoyed every bite! Our friends ordered grilled chicken with garlic sauce and chicken with mushrooms, both were delighted with their meals. As always and quite typical of restaurants in Madeira the sides were served family style. Boiled potatoes, Portuguese yams, carrotts, green beans, french fries and the delicious Milho Frito, fried corn meal. A huge basket of toasted bread with garlic butter is on the table as the guests are seated and unless you tell the server that you do not want the bread, you are automatically charged for it. Of course it is wonderful bread and goes so well with the meals.
Now for dessert. The dessert case in in full view of nearly every table in a brightly lit case that makes them hard to resist. The selection varies nightly but we've never been disapointed with our choices. If you don't order the Lobster which is150 Euros you can have a wonderful dinner of quality food and a fine dining experience for a reasonable price. The ambience is lovely, the food is delicious, there is an extensive wine list, prices are affordable, what more could you ask for! One of our favorites!
