We had a very enjoyable meal here, last night (a Friday). The restaurant was very busy but we got a table easily. I had limpets and seafood skewer, my wife a prawn salad then beef kebab. Everything cooked well, massive portions, with an aperatif, half a bottle of wine and coffees the total was 50 euros.

On the basis of these reviews we tried to book a table. Our hotel tried on four separate occasions over three days and there was never any answer.

This is a well hidden little restaurant with a friendly feel and welcome. With little signage, and downstairs across from the market it serves some hearty rustic dishes. I had the largest cod fillet I have ever seen served to me, with some basic sides of boiled potatoes and vegetables. This restaurant is not going to win awards for its food, but it provides some really fresh, local rustic meals

We went to this restaurant after reading the reviews on TA and almost didn't bother to go in. It is down a flight of stairs and you cannot see into the restaurant from the street. However as we were standing there deciding whether or not to venture down the stairs a party of 10 trooped down and we decided to follow- so glad that we did! As soon as you get to the bottom of the stairs the kitchen is in front of you, always a good sign I think, and then you get the welcome from the owners. The place was packed and we got the last table. The atmosphere was great, lots of chatter, fantastic service and of course the wonderful food. We opted for a casserole full of fresh fish served for 2 in a huge bowl, we had ordered a starter but the waiter advised us that the main course was enough and it was! From what we could see of other plates it was all good. Prices are very reasonable, about 12 euros for mains including sides, G&Ts are 3.50E and a very decent bottle of Portuguese wine was 9E. It is a bit like entering a secret place as you descend the stairs and the noise hits you, thoroughly recommended. We ate there twice and wouldn't hesitate to return. Just don't be put off by external appearances! Closed on Sunday.
