We treated ourselves to one of the premier suites for a 4 night stay in mid November and weren't disappointed. The hotel felt peaceful and relaxed, partly due to it being low season with only a few other hotel guests at the time, but also because it's hidden away in a quiet residential location.
We found we could walk between the hotel and the old town in about 10 minutes, though there is a bus stop right outside. The area felt safe and was quiet with the exception of occasional barking from some dogs in a nearby garden. The dogs didn't bark during the night or most of the day during our stay and so it wasn't a problem for us.
Our premier suite was very spacious, especially the bedroom and was well furnished with masses of cupboard and wardrobe storage space. The kitchenette and the dining/living area were fine but didn't have much natural light as the only window was a skylight. However, we only really used these areas in the evening so this wasn't a problem. The hotel had a very nice communal living room area with a TV and plenty of books just round the corner from our room, which we used a few times. Our bedroom opened out onto a large terrace with superb views over the bay, perfect for watching the sun setting while knocking back a glass of Madeira.
Breakfast was included in our room price and largely consisted of fresh bread rolls and pastries with cheese, ham and jam. There was also a bit of cereal, a yoghurt pot and some fruit.
Last but not least, we found the hotel staff were friendly and helpful during our stay. They kindly explained where to catch the buses we needed and printed off bus timetables for us.
