We make a point of always visiting Le Jardin at least once every year we go to Madeira, more often than not we go twice. It's a really good local restaurant in the old town area of Funchal - don't be put off by the waiters 'ambushing' you to eat there, it's really worth it! Superb quality and value Madeiran food and wine, served efficiently by very friendly and attentive staff. Especially good are the flambé specials cooked at your table - the flambé tuna is absolutely wonderful, as is the house 'pudim', a local mousse style dessert made from passion fruit, wonderful! Can't wait to visit again later in the year

Le Jardin was another restaurant recommended by local as well as travel guides. We visited that in not bussy time, between lunch and dinner when the restaurant was rather empty.
Despite that, sitting outside on the terrace we absolutelly enjoyed overall atmosphere. All meals we had were tasty (just beef meat was cooked slightly more than medium compared to order), moreover local tomato and onion soup was excellent, one of the best I ever had.
Another excellent performance was done by waiter. Restaurant offers very good value for money and we can certainly recommend to visit Le Jardin.

Arriving late evening on our first day and our first visit to Madeira we just picked Le Jardin as it was busy and looked inviting. We were placed next to a lovely Dutch couple who told us they have been coming to Funchal for 18 years, and in their view, Le Jardin represented the best food, location and value for money in the town. Having now sampled the restaurant, I can see the attraction. I would have no hesitation recommending it. The food is good and reasonably priced, the wine is equally good, the location great, and the service excellent.

Many Old Town and other restaurants employ 'grabbers' to get you to stop and read their menu. The guy here was one of the best and persuaded us to try-and we were glad we did. We sat outside , being entertained by watching him working out the nationalities passing and tailoring his pitch to them. My wife had excellent veal and I had Mixed Grilled Fish which was the best I ate during our two week holiday. Staff were attentive but not pushy, and we received the usual thankyou glass of Maderia with our very resonable bill. Only 30 metres from the gates of the Porto Santa Maria. Give it a try

This restaurant came highly recommended due to the good food and friendly staff. The restaurant offers a friendly and cosy feel. The starters were huge and the main courses were delicious. We did not have room for desert. We visited twice, had a great bottle of wine on the first occasion, but could not remember the name of it the second time - but the wine waiter did!
