“Newly re-opened under new management”
Reviewed November 8, 2010

We are long-term visitors to Funchal and were directed to this restaurant by a guy handing out leaflets near the port. He claimed it had only been re-opened the week before under new management. The four of us gave it a try and were not disappointed. There were only three staff in total at the time but the chef did an excellent job with a broad madeiran-style menu and we all ordered different items. Service was good and pricing below what we expected. The view through the floor to ceiling '360 degree' windows was superb. Currently the Forte is our favourite restaurant for quality and value but the Molhe also has excellent food and we will return. It remains to be seen whether the owners market this well-hidden restaurant well to keep it well patronised. To get to the restaurant go to the left of the first tunnel at the 'Rock' in the liner port and go up two lifts to the top. Signage is currently non-existent.

“Worth looking for”
Reviewed October 23, 2008

Fellow guests in our hotel recommended this restaurant to us claiming it to be the best food they had eaten in Funchal. There are two options, the 'Tasting' restaurant and one serving a la carte. After a bit of searching (it's not in the most obvious of places and there's no signposting) our party of 4 hit lucky. We opted for the a la carte restaurant. None of us are big fish eaters and we were a bit concerned by a fairly limited menu choice as a result, but we needn't have worried. Our food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Add to this the beautiful terrace views and you can't go wrong. We expected to be paying over the odds for our food but found that it compared very favourably with other restaurants of a similar standard.
All in all, great food and great views - we loved it.

“don't rush to book this one”
Reviewed September 12, 2008

Lovely situation located at Funchal harbour but ultimately this restaurant disappoints.Small portions of over fancy food at pretty expensive prices. we have just paid 118 euros for dinner for two which was nothing special. If you like your food to look pretty rather than taste good then this place is for you.....if not there are better places to eat in Funchal
