From various recommendations, we were really looking forward to the dining experience here. In fact the welcome, the service, and the place as a whole was delightful. However, having eaten in similar restaurants in Brazil, we were perhaps expecting too much, as we felt that the Pichana beef was nowhere near the quality that we had anticipated.

We arrived without a reservation but luckily this was not a problem and after enjoying a drink at the bar we were shown to a table in a side room as the main dining area was full, this proved to be an unexpected bonus as you can smoke in there.
The decor through out the restaurant was quirky and interesting especially the cow as you walk in.
The staff were fantastic and made the whole evening extra special.
I had duck confit which was the best I've ever tasted and my other half had the steak which was sliced at the table and the guy who was doing the carving just kept coming to see if he wanted any more, the side dishes were fantastic, black beans in a wickedly delicious sauce, stewed cabbage and sweet potatoes.
I can not rate this place highly enough, we are going back before we come home.

Six rump steaks on a sword, sliced off for you until you have had enough (I managed about a third!) is the speciality of this splendid, friendly restaurant. It also boasts one of the largest Portuguese and Madeiran wine cellars on the island. This place is a real treat - best to book to avoid disappointment.
