“Great Meal”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

After visiting Restaurante Do Forte our friends took us to another of their favourite restaurants on our last evening in Funchal. This restaurant is the equal of Forte, again with the 39€ menu. The food was superb and the wine excellent. We had live guitar music on the evening we visited which made the evening truly memorable. The service is excellent and the ambience is warm, friendly and conducive to a feeling of wellbeing making the food so much more enjoyable.

“Wonderful meal and great value”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

We tried this restaurant after it getting great revues on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. We chose the set dinner which included wine with every course. The food was beautiful and the service friendly and very helpful. Interesting atmospheric surroundings - could not fault it. If we visit Madeira again we will definitely go back to this restaurant - probably every night!

“Nearly a touch of class at lunchtime”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

Friendly welcome, offered lunch specials. Lovely wine, professional service, polite but not over friendly, probably the two waiters were a little rushed to have time to be friendly..my husband had the Cannelloni Duck which he said was superb and very filling, I chose the Squid which was OK but in contrast I was still hungry after, would have made a great starter. We were not offered any other menu, however I did see others looking at it. Dessert was beautiful, apple crumble with a difference. We will return again in an evening and I hope that it lives up to the reputation it has for both of us next time. We did feel a little rushed but then realised that all others around us were obviously local business/working people on a lunch hour with a limited eating time, maybe differentiating between workers and those wanting a leisurely lunch would be a good idea. The whole experience was OK, atmosphere and setting is great with a little more of a friendly and encouraging welcome we would have given it a rating of very good, if maybe I had chosen something else, as I saw other dishes going passed that looked good, it would have had an excellent...maybe next time...

“Great to be back!”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

It's been two years since we last ate at the Armazem Do Sal, we loved it so much then that we booked it again for our first night back in Funchal to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We weren't disappointed, despite turning up a little earlier than our booking we were welcomed in by the delightful staff and enjoyed a superb meal. The tuna was particularly good. The food is stylist, well prepared and above anything else tasty; it's also very good value

“One of the best”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Armazem has always been one of the best restaurants on Madeira since its opening (if not the very best). And, it still is! Impeccable attentive service & excellent food, together with an atmospheric setting in old salt depot, complemented (as a rule) with life guitar music at the evening. A dinner here will make your evening unforgettable. Soups & entrees - go for local seasonal specialities. Main can be as simple as excellent risotto "Nero di Sepia", but octopus with mash potatoes was particularly tender and tasteful. My friend's fillet mignon was apparently also meeting all his expectations. Very good selection of wines only contributes to the overall satisfaction. In case, you do not want to be bothered with making individual choice from the carte, you can opt for the restaurant's menu with still enough variety and a chance to enjoy excellent food and matching wines for very good price. To make your stay on Madeira even more pleasant, do not forget to have your dinner in Armazem, at least once :)
