June 2013. We are frequent visitors to Madeira but only came across this restaurant this year - so delighted that we did. The menu arrangement has been described well by other reviewers here. The food was really delicious - The prawn/guacamole starter is a must! We opted for the special menu with drinks included and the wines offered were a perfect compliment to each of the courses. Such a treat - we went there twice in our stay. It is easy to see how the Armazem has earned its stripes with Tripadvisor reviewers.

As last year, the food is great with interesting presentation and all is most definitely well cooked. Service is good, if a little rushed, so you need to ask them to describe the dishes and the wines when serving or they just serve & go.
The only issue is with the wine matching choices - a decent sommelier could sort it out in minutes, so not sure what the issue is, but the wines we were served were definitely not matched to the dishes we chose.
Won't stop us coming back again next year as it is still in the top 3 for food, and by then the wine issue may have been resolved.
A "must visit" if in Madeira for a week.

This restaurant was the best we visited in Funchal. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. The service was good with attentive staff. The evening we visited a girl was singing and playing guitar. It was a lovely chilled experience in a lovely setting.

This restaurant is tucked away on one of the side streets of Funchal as others have stated. However it is worth finding. The service and food are excellent, and could not be faulted on our two visits to this establishment. We ate inside on both visits as this was our preference, but many others dined in the courtyard where excellent live music is provided by a local musician. It can get busy on weekends, so booking in advance would be the best option. If you visit Funchal, do yourself a favour and visit Armazem Do Sal

We have just come back from a week in Madeira. We have been to this island many times and it is a foody paradise. The restaurant Armazem do Sal was recommended to us by another visitor as they had enjoyed it. The restaurant is tucked away in a side street in Funchal, and you probably wouldnt notice it in passing,We thought the retaurant had a great feel about it,It was an old Salt warehouse and has still retained a lot of the features. There was live music playing in the background. I can only say that the food creations were like art on a plate. The taste was exquisite and the service excellent. A wonderfull experience, so much so that we returned the following evening as we were keen to try some of the other dishes. The menu has both fish and meat recipes. It was not overpriced for the work that went into it.This in my opinion is one of the best we have been to and we will definately return on our next visit to Madeira.
