A sommelier who knew and appreciated wine. Several waiters who valued the food and served with style.

This is a very special place where the chef understands how to make it special

Lovely amuse bouche.
Great wines with every course.
Foie gras to suit the fussiest palate
Marvellous filet mignon.
And the Chocolate volcano!!!!

Can't wait to go back.

“Number One”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

We got a table easily on our first visit, but it became clear that it made sense to book in advance.
Once you find the restaurant you enter a well designed interior, the old salt house can still be recognised. Now the main course, select the menu with wine, a different meal every time. The food was beautifully presented well served and there was entertainment.
I would say it is a must to visit this restaurant you will not be disappointed.

“Special Birthday treat”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We booked this "blind" having trusted Tripadvisor and those who had visited Madeira before us. This was the number one restaurant on Ta and we can see why. The food was absolutely excellent considering the price and the wine provided with the meal was perfectly good. We booked by email well before we got to Funchal and the only disappointment was that the gentleman (chef) with whom we had corresponded was not working on the night we ate there and the fact that it was such a special evening for us had obviously escaped notice. Nevertheless, it would be churlish to downgrade the restaurant because of that since they gave us a good evening and came up with a wonderful extra dessert for my wife which we were barely able to manage between us. We agree with our fellow reviewers that this is one restaurant which has to be visited in Funchal since it combines a quirky modern individuality with quality cuisine and good value if you select either the with wine or without wine special options. Do visit this restaurant if you want a fine dining experience in Funchal.

“A little rushed”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We tried this restaurant based on Trip Advisor's review. We had an excellent meal in a nice buzzing atmosphere. The restaurant was busy but service was good. We arrived at 9.15 pm and were asked if we had booked which is always a little irritating when you can see half a dozen free tables for two which are not reserved and many other tables finishing. We were one of the last tables to arrive and received a starter 15 minutes or so after ordering as there was a bit of a delay in the kitchen. We had only been there for an hour and 10 minutes for a three course meal when we felt we were being rather rushed by staff clearing up around us and moving furniture. I think it a shame that I remember more about being made to hurry up and the slight stuffiness on our arrival than I do about the food. We would definitely go back again and arrive a little earlier. Perhaps they close at 10 pm but it would seem odd in Funchal as most restaurants are open until midnight.

“The best in Funchal...For sure!!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

I have been to Armazém do Sal on Valentines Day, and as all the other reviews i must agree that these restaurant is on the top of the others in Funchal.
Starting from the welcome that we´ve had until the minute we left all was perfect.
There was a special menu on this day for 25 Euros per person, to die for... very good.
During the night an accordionist was amusing everyone with soft music.
The waiter suggested a wine and i must admit that it was a perfect wine to enjoy during the meal.
Lilia the lady who was looking after our table, always asking if everything was ok, very attentive as all the staff that made us feel that the service is really what we were looking for and we were very pleased to have choose Armazem do Sal for such a special evening,
Before leaving we spoke with the Chef and presented him our best regards and compliments.
In the future they will see us more times.
