“The best in Funchal...For sure!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

I have been to Armazém do Sal on Valentines Day, and as all the other reviews i must agree that these restaurant is on the top of the others in Funchal.
Starting from the welcome that we´ve had until the minute we left all was perfect.
There was a special menu on this day for 25 Euros per person, to die for... very good.
During the night an accordionist was amusing everyone with soft music.
The waiter suggested a wine and i must admit that it was a perfect wine to enjoy during the meal.
Lilia the lady who was looking after our table, always asking if everything was ok, very attentive as all the staff that made us feel that the service is really what we were looking for and we were very pleased to have choose Armazem do Sal for such a special evening,
Before leaving we spoke with the Chef and presented him our best regards and compliments.
In the future they will see us more times.

“Had a good meal here - but prefer Do Forte”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We went with our friends who last year had found it and considered it better than Do Forte. We all agreed that this year it was very good, but Do Forte just beat it. Similar system - all-in price for 3 courses, welcome drink and wine throughout the meal. We will return next year. You need to book.

“Deserves its No. 1 rating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

Fabulous in every way - great atmosphere, imaginative menu, excellent service. We had the 37 Euro "set" menu - not a set menu at all, since you can choose any 3 courses from the A La Carte. It includes an aperitif, wine and mineral water with the meal, coffee and a glass of madeira wine. We loved the Mozart, but this is even better!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant met all our expectations and then some! Armazem do sal offers exellent food and great value for money with their set menu. Only 37 euros for a 3 course meal including some great wines. Was wisiting on a wednesday and by the end of the day we allready booked the forthcoming saturday:-) don't miss out on this superb restaurant in a beautiful oldfashioned setting, its definatly one of funchals finest - if not the best!

“Good, but not No.1 in Funchal surely ?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

Ate here in Feb 2013. Located off a rather shabby side street near the indoor market, the interior of this old former salt warehouse was, in my view, rather spoiled by the shiney ventilation and air conn pipework which adorned it's walls. The toilet facilities, only one for the men, were OK, but a bit smelly by mid evening and certainly nothing to write home about.

The rustic walls were adorned with a variety of paintings, all apparently for sale, which gave the otherwise rather gloomy room some atmosphere.

The food was generally very good thogh I found the desert selection a disappointment. Although nominally a la carte, most diners took advantage of the fixed price deal which allowed almost free choice from the menu (starter, main, desert and coffee) plus a slightly pretentious amuse bouche and couvert together with a glass of fizz then red and /or white wine. Wine servings were generous for the additional 8 Euros charged over the basic(without wine) price of 29 Euros.
