Vitorina Corte Guesthouse
Ranked #7 of 35 Funchal B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We've spent here 7 nights and then (coming back from the trip around-the-island) 2 more nights. We were warm welcomed by Janaina and Angela. Our plane was delayed, we arrived late in the night and still there was a warm carrot soup on the stove waiting for us! Every day Angela was bringing us nice breakfast (bread, butter, ham, cheese, jam, milk, coffee, joghurts). Every day - different fruits or cakes for us and our children. The room was spacious, well-furnished, cleaned perfecly every day. Landladies were very warm and helpful. VC Guesthouse is located in the heart of Funchal (5 minutes to the bus station) but not close to the loudest restaurants and clubs with the beautiful seaview from the balcony. We enjoyed staying there very much, we will certainly be back there!

We have stayed in Funchal many times in various hotels around the city. We wanted a change from busy hotels and decided to opt for a guesthouse in the heart of the old town. We are so pleased that we made this decision and feel that we have found a 'gem'. Janaina, Angela and Domingos were extremely attentive yet unobtrusive hosts. The breakfasts delivered to our room each morning were wonderful and our room was cleaned daily, to a high standard. As it was our wedding anniversary my husband requested some flowers in our room. These were provided 'free of charge' as they had come from Angela's garden. If I were to make any criticism it would be to say that the kitchen in our studio room could do with a little bit of updating. However, the house is absolutely beautiful and is full of charm. John's Tower was undergoing renovation whilst we were there. We are now looking forward to a return stay when it is completed so that we can enjoy the wonderful views across the bay. Great location for the lido/bathing area and the restaurants and bars of the old town. Only a short walk into the heart of Funchal and along the sea front.

Travelling as a couple May 2013

Room Tip: The Tower Room when it is renovated will offer superb views all round.

Curteous and helpul owners, good value and excellent location in the old part of Funchal. John Tower Room offers excellent views over the bay and there is a nice cafe/bar frequented by locals a few doors away overlooking ocean and loads of restaurants to visit. I like hard beds as a sleep better but my only negative which didn't bother us too much was some street noise from the local area.

We were welcomed by the owners who are very nice and warm guests, always available at any time of the day to help us out. The room ( the one on the first floor) was organized like a small suite, with a kitchen, very convenient. It was very clean and made every day, breakfast served at 8:30 or 9 AM (but could be asked for earlier or later, which was great !). The place is quiet overall. The only drawback are the beds, which are quite hard.
The location is very convenient, close to the market/supermarket, with a lot of small restaurants & bars and a nice view on the sea. We had no problem to find a parking spot.
We would come again for sure in this guesthouse on a later trip to Madeira.

Very warm welcome by friendly owners at this traditional guesthouse. Great location and fantastic views overlooking the sea. Narrow streets difficult for parking though. We enjoyed our stay in this very characterful place, full of old furniture.

This must be the best value for money by far in Madeira and its location is superb. Not all rooms are en suite but all are beautifully clean and Janaina and Anjela do a fantastic job as hostesses; do use Domingo also as a taxi service. The construction work on the sea front was not much of a disturbance, but Funchal will be better off once it is complete.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are brilliant.

Very cute house, furnished with old-time furniture. We reserved a room in the tower with views on all 4 sides called John's Towers Room. There are shower with soap accessory kit and a set of towels, a double bed, wardrobe, fridge, coffee maker, dishes, table in the room. And balcony with fantastic view! For us it was a very convenient location, an ocean view and the historical center, and inexpensive.
We were checked-in before the specified time (check-in at 16-00, we arrived about 13 hours). Janaina and Angela were very nice, helpful and courteous. We asked a breakfast at 8, although they have the rules written that breakfast starts at 8-30, it was brought directly to our door. There are coffee, 3 types of fresh bread rolls, butter, cheese, ham, yogurt, 2 kinds of fruit for breakfast. Room was well cleaned every day, Janaina helped us to orient the by map. The day before leaving, we asked for a taxi to the airport in the morning, which arrived on time.
Of the minuses: the morning was cool but it was a heater in the room, in the shower hot water was from the water heater and we had to wash quickly.
Total: if we will go to Madeira again, we will likely stay there preferably in the summer
