“Wonderful gardens, elegant house”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

This was my favourite place in Lisbon and Sintra. The gardens are to die for. William Beckford, one of the richest men in England, had to leave the country after an incident with a young boy - which was a capital offence at the time - and developed this wonderful estate with the most elegant house where he entertained friends such as Lord Byron.
It is not nearly as busy as the Pena Palace, and quite magical.

“Amazing”
Reviewed May 16, 2014 via mobile

The best place in Sintra, maybe even the whole Estremadura district. Really beautiful gardens, with amazing trees, paths that let you wander off into unchartered territory. Plus there is the most peaceful lake I have ever seen with a chorus of frogs and even a snake that swims around poking her little head above water. The house is ok too. €7.50 to get in. I think. I can't remember. The beauty blew my mind.

“A touch of India”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

A stunning Mughal-inspired building. Sadly it has been left to fall into disrepair internally, but the conservation work is incredible. It's quieter than the Pena Palace and the gardens are lovely.

“Original Palace in paradise gardens”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

This is, in my opinion, the most original palace in Sintra. It's architecture and location makes this little palace a wonder.

The surrounding gardens are vast.

It's a great place to take unforgettable pictures.
