Atmospheric, basic and fairly priced B&B in a lush garden with views across the valley to Pena Palace (when not covered by clouds). Stayed two nights in a ground floor room with a sofa bed. Not big but fairly comfortable and clean, with a small modern bathroom, coffee/tea facilities and a small terrace that we did not use due to the wet climate that is part of Sintra charm. An indoor common space (lounge?) would be nice.

The fridge was old, noisy and leaky and the room had a strange smell of moisture. Breakfast - if ordered - is served in the room but not particularly value for money. View from the room was not very inspiring - the small internet cottage - but we later realised that the place has a modernised section of rooms in the lower garden with perfect valley views. Our host Felicia was very friendly and service minded - so were her non English-speaking colleagues - but beware of the huge dogs that may run around on the ground, not dangerous but somewhat frightening for kids.

10 min walk to the central square of Placa Republica with cafés etc. For quick lunches, breakfasts etc. try the Pastelaria on the square. Sintra is a charming town with a lot of atmosphere but (therefore) very crowded with tourists.

Room Tip: Get a room in the lower garden with valley views

Thank you for choosing Casa do Valle and reviewing us as well!
You were here at a very unfortunate time of unseasonal rain - which not only causes the humidity but can cover the mountain top in a cloud, but as you said, it adds to the charm of Sintra, plus ensures that Sintra is always green!

I am extremely pleased that you found the staff pleasant and helpful, and very sorry that you found the fridge noisy. Naturally we have adjusted the thermometer so that it is quieter. It was really a minor adjustment, so it was too bad that you did not bring it to our attention while here.

The superior rooms in the bottom of the property do have a better view to the mountain than the garden level rooms; so do the upper level rooms of the same building. Unfortunately the ones in the same building do not have the sofa bed for the extra person.

I hope that the rest of your trip was less rainy so you could enjoy the Portuguese summer that we are now having!

Best regards,
Virpi

We had a fantastic two night stay and were made feel very welcome in majestic Sintra. It was the little touches by Virpl that sets this place apart. The breakfast was a treat on the terrace and the views were to inspire. It is a very convenient stroll into central Sintra
Thanks to all for a wonderful warm stay!

Thank you for your review! I will certainly forward your comments about cleanliness and friendly and helpful staff to our team - they will be pleased to know that their work has been noticed and appreciaed.

Glad you enjoyed the breakfast in your room. In the absence of a restaurant, our solution to deliver the breakfst to the room at the desired time seems to work well indeed.

Maybe we will see you again? Best regards,

My husband and I stayed at Casa do Valle for 3 nights in June and it exceeded our expectations! The B&B was a little difficult to find initially because the address was not recognized on the GPS. However, follow Virpi's instructions in the confirmation email. It's near Hotel Tivoli. The B&B is close to town so you can easily walk there for dinner (although uphill).

The room and bathroom were clean. The room was a bit small but it came equipped with a fridge, electric water kettle, toaster, and tea/coffee packets. We were even given a free bottle of water daily.

We ordered breakfast every day and it was brought to our room at the time we requested and we were able to enjoy it on the balcony. Each room either has a balcony or an outdoor space on the ground level. We enjoyed a late afternoon swim each day at the pool, which is maintained very well.

Virpi, who is the owner, was immensely helpful. She helped us organize surf lessons and gave suggestions for nice beaches nearby. If we were to return to Sintra, we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Casa de Volle only has 6 rooms and only 1 doesn't have the bathroom attached to the room (it is...

Hello! Thank you for reviewing us and the confidence you have in us to recommend us further.

This last year we got a new street number, number 5 instead of lote 2. This has indeed confused some GPSs - and others, no matter the number, cannot even find the street. But as you said, the directions we have for instance on the webiste are quite clear, so it is a good idea to have a print with you, just to be on the safe side.

You stayed in the standard Casa do Valle rooms, which are a bit smaller than the superior rooms (Casa da Vista). Though smaller, the rooms are welll equipped and have nice closet space. I am happy you also found them well appointed!

This year we have started collaborating with a few surf instructions as surfing is something many people like to try! It is nice to not to hve to buy everything just to have a few lessons, and the small surf schools we recommend have been well liked by all. Glad you also liked their services. Be sure to check our web site and facebook page out every so often - we are launching new package deals that include surf lessons!

Maybe we will see you again another time!

I stayed with my mother who is nearly 90 years old for one week in Casa do Valle. It was really fantastic. The hospitality of Virpi and patricia; the view from our terrace on the hills and palaces; the sound of the birds and goats. It was beyond expectations.
We knew in advance that the surroundig of Sintra is not very easy for less abled persons, but we experienced so much opportunities of doing things and find out so much help from the portuguese people. We had a splendid tour with a carriage to the palace of montserat; we went with the old tram to the applebeach; had lovely lunches at the restaurant at the Adraga beach.
And in the evening Virpi brought us a ham and cheese platter with a nice bottle of cold white wine or some risolles.
So casa do valle and Sintra are great, also when you are old or handicapped (except if you are really in a wheel chair)

Room Tip: If you have a mobility problem you can stay best at the lower rooms.

Thank you for this review! Yes, Sintra is on a mountain and there are lots of hills and steps everywhere, like many have already pointed out. But, yes, as you wrote, you can come prepared and plan your days and activities according to your abilities to move! Your mother saw and did a lot in accordance to her ability to move around.

The horse and carriage, the tram, the Tuk Tuk, the taxis; they all are available for planning your ´slow traveling´ holidays. Though SIntra is perfect for walking, it is also perfect for other means of slow travel. That is the beauty of Sintra: it lends itself for many different things, from active to adventure to slow travel.

We loved having you and your mother visit! Thank you for choosing us!

This place is located bang in the centre of Sintra yet the surrounding greenery, calm, solitude and of course the view of the hilly terrain with it's lush greenery and the Pena and Moorish castles give this place a dreamlike quality.
Virpi and Patricia our hostesses were very hospitable making sure everyone felt comfortable. They were a treasure trove of information as regards places to visit and current evens of interest.
Our son Avan had a swell time at the pool enjoying the ice tea served every evening. He didn't want to come back! The child friendly grounds also gave him ample opportunity for exploration and adventure after which he'd laze in the hammock! A special mention must be made of Pandora, the resident dog who loves children.
All in all highly recommended and we'll be back.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, especially your son! The pool, the hammock, the legos usually do entertain our younger guests - and there are indeed many corners and nooks to explore!

As you said, Pandora does adore children - and attention in general. She is very gentle and loves it when someon comes for a morning walk with us, too! Important to notice though, that we are aware that not everyone likes the company of a dog, so she is only allowed to be around people who show interest in doing so.

Thank you for choosing Casa do Valle as your holiday accomodation!

We, a family with two teenage daughters, stayed in the suite in Casa da Vista (part of the Casa do Valle/ Casa da Vista establishment) for one week. It was perfect! The best were the host Virpi and Jessica in the reception, both extremely nice and helpful and always caring for the guests. The great dane dog Pandora, was also very friendly. The garden was beautiful, and suited the castle gardens of Sintra perfectly. It was quite and relaxing and it was possible to find both sun on a cold day and shadow on a warm day. I also loved the romantic view from the pool and the terrace outside the suite. It is even better than it looks like on the photos on the homepage! Normally I don't like to sit by a pool for hours, it can be both noisy and dull, but here it was a real treat.

The suite was practical with a tasteful interior. It has two big double glass doors which can be opened to the terrace so you feel you are outdoor, when you are indoor. The bathroom was excellent and so was the breakfast. We had planned to have breakfast only the first morning, but then decided to have one every day. In the suite it is also possible to make your own food. While we were in Sintra it was unusually hot, and without air condition it was hot inside as well (that´s the four out of five stars for sleep quality), but we decided to sleep with the double doors open to get in cool night air. I am uncertain if that is recommended, but as we have done a lot of camping, we are used to sleep outdoors without locked doors. Looking directly up to the stars is quite nice!

Sintra is a charming village situated in a very green and hilly landscape with a lot of exotic trees. It has several castles and gardens to visit and nice walks in the wood. The village and the sights are full of tourists during the day, but it gets calm in the afternoon and has many small restaurants. A good tip is to visit the castles and gardens the last two hours before closing time. Then you can discover them almost on your own and it is not so hot as during the day. (Be aware: The Monserate palace closes at 6.15 pm even if the brochure says at 7 pm)

To stay in Casa da Vista for a week was a great idea. There are lots of things to do within a short distance. You can visit several castles and gardens (walk up or go by car for a few minutes), go bathing in the quite cold but fun waves at a beautiful beach by the Atlantic sea or go for a cliff walk (ca. 20 Minutes by car) or you can visit Lisboa (40 Minutes to the city center by train). Best tips: Quinta da Regaleira (must also be great for small children!), Praia da Agrada (Atlantic beach) and the excellent fish restaurant with amazing sea view and a sea pool at Azenhas do mar.

So traveling with or without children, go for a romantic trip, like to calm down or like to discover new places, like to exercise, like cultural experiences? Casa da Vista/ Casa do Valle is the place for you! I will recommend it to all of my friends too. If you are old or disabled though, I think I would chose another destination than Sintra. There are a lot of steep hills! But as I have seen on the blog, Virpi of course has a plan for them too :).

Hello to Norway! Thank you choosing Casa do Valle and specifically Casa da Vista suite! We are glad that your whole family enjoyed their stay.

As you mentioned, it was hot - unusually hot at that! Opening the windows is quite the thing to do, because with the fan going, that is the best way to cool down. And the antimosquitos make sure you are not bitten by mosquitos.
The pool scene is especially attractive now, in this heat wave, and this is also why we have chosen to serve complimentary icetea in the afternoons by the pool, to help refresh even further!

You had many good tips for the future travelers in your review, thank you for taking the time to write them out. Staying in Sintra for a week is relaxing, you can do your visits during the days and return for the calm of Sntra for the night. The road connections are good as well.

Thank you again for having chosen us as your place to stay!
