This has to be the most magical garden I have ever visited, secret tunnels, hidden towers, water falls, stepping stones, and more hidden gems and surprises. Then the house itself does not disappoint .
Certainly do not miss this attraction on a visit to Sintra.

“a must see”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

I was only in Sintra for one day and I almost skipped this, which would have been a huge mistake. The grounds are fascinating, with secret tunnels, and all sorts of cool and unique things to see. It is very hard to describe, it must be experienced to understand. Definitely wander around for at least an hour.

“not to be missed”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

Amazing little palace with even more amazing gardens! The house is decorated with beautiful frescoes, and has great views to the Castle of the Moors as well as the Pena Palace. The gardens are a paradise of fountains, lakes, grottoes, etc. You should definately go there!

“We almost missed this, don't make that mistake”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

There is a reason why this is rated the number one attraction on tripadvisor for sintra. Truly magical place with underground passage ways connecting grottos, waterfalls, and castle like structures. Feels like you are literally on the set of lord of the rings.

Definitely spend the whole day in Sintra but if you only have 2-3 hours then visit this place and the moorish castle.

“Mystical environment”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Can be a quick visit, but being longer - at least an hour – it is possible to observe and realize the sense of what was built. The palace and the gardens were configured as a mystical space attached to Masonry idea. In the gardens, the highlight goes to the avenue of the gods, to the initiatory pit and for the chapel. In the building focus goes to the Manueline style. But there is much more to see, ask and learn. Acess is easy, only a 10 minutes footwalk from Sintra center.
