Only a 10 minute walk from Sintra town centre but well worth it. It is a 20th Century billionaires plaything and if Elton John had been around 100 years ago I am sure this is what he would have built! Gardens great for kids with waterfalls, subterranean passages, grottos and in a safe environment. Gardens nice and plenty of undulating walks and trees. House is mad and look at the eccentric details and materials.....the top floor library holds a brilliant surprise and illusion. Good little terraced cafe on site

When you first start to discover the grounds you enter a world of beauty, hidden throughout the entire trip. I definatly recommend going with a tour guide, either at the specified times (once every hour) or gathering a group of friends (At least 6) and having your own tour guide. If you don't go with a tour guide you will miss the wealth of knowledge that they provide along with the details of the grounds that take you to a "Mason" inspired build. The whole trip will leave you in awe. Make sure you wear comfortable footwear and proper clothing if the weather is not sunny, because it will get chilly.

The guy who built this had more money than sense and was heavily into the mystical. The initiation well and the mirrored library were amazing. This is a must-see.

Quinta Da Regaleira in Sintra is a magical place, the mansion in stunning, with its luxurious gardens and imponent architecture. A travel in time, from the classical roman-greek mythology to modern times. If you can, avoid visiting in the week-end. The ticket is a bit expensive, but surely not to be missed if you visit Sintra.
