... If you have basic knowledge of esoteric culture (Mystery Cults, Secret Societies, "Gnosis"/Re-birth/Enlightenment etc.) and happen to be in the area, do not miss this sight!!.... For everyone else this is a great place to spend an afternoon.... Well maintained/manicured gardens filled w/nooks, crannies, statues pathways to mysterious towers, tunnels, elaborate benches, caves (make sure to bring a light source to explore these), an initiation well and even a spot where you can literally "walk on water"!!...
With Sintra proper behind you (with your back to the "Moors' Castle") head to the main road (as if you're going to the Sintra Palace) and generally head to the left. Then look for signs to the right of the colorful church, and in about 10 min. you'll reach the main gate.... Ask anyone and they'll point you to it, it's really easy to get to.
The main house is also a must see, and while there, make sure you follow the narrow steps to the roof top, where you'll get some great shots of the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace (see review on those). Small cafe located in it's courtyard is an awesome place to end the very exploratory afternoon.... Needless to say, there's lots of walking involved, so bring comfortable shoes!!... Also by the house is a little chapel (also full of esoteric meaning), not to be missed!!... Lots of photo ops, everywhere!
My only complaint was a lack of restroom facilities (only one set of restrooms by the main house AFA I know)... Other than that, no complaints.
Hope this helps!! KS
