“Amazing find”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

If you are health conscious at all, then stop in the restaurant. When we are in the states we mostly eat vegan, but usually splurge on vacation. Finding this place after air travel and a meat/butter heavy dinner the night before was very exciting. Not only was it healthy, but delicious! I think even meat eaters would like it here. For 12 euros you get a soup, main course, dessert, fresh juice, and tea. It is a fantastic deal. Be prepared, it is a preset menu, so what they are serving that day is what you get. You get to choose your particulars, dessert, and your juice flavor (I had strawberry, watermelon, lemon and my husband had beet/apple juice). Another reason to go here is the atmosphere. If you sit outside (and that is what we recommend) you can sit at a table, or ground cushions around low level tables. This place brings serenity!

“Fantastic find in overcrowded Sintra”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

A great little find in Sintra. We were looking for an out of the way place away from all the obnoxious tourists and typical blah restaurants.

The place was amazing. Great food, nice people, gluten free options.
For one price you get juice, tea, soup, meal and dessert. I was very full by the end.

“Vegan/Vegetarian paradise!”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

If you're like most vegans/vegetarians on holiday, you'll be hard-pressed to find a vegetarian friendly restaurant. More than likely you'll be eating a sad looking salad at some kind of non-vegetarian restaurant. Well, when in Sintra -- look no further! Soul Food is a welcomed respite from the hundreds of meat friendly places in Portugal.

As you descend the stairs to reach the restaurant (note: the place is hard to find - there's only a hand written sign posted on the fence at the sidewalk!!), you'll be greeted by soothing yoga music. Once inside, you can choose to kick off your shoes and relax in the chillout room (a room fancifully decorated with tons of pillows and arabian style decor). Chill, meditate or read!

If you're wanting to grab a bite to eat, they serve brunch, lunch and dinner. The prices are acceptable, especially when you consider that they buy fresh organic produce from the local farmer's market. I recommend going with the menu option as it's the most bang for the buck and you'll start off with some spiced tea, then move into a freshly made fruit juice. You are presented with a nice hummous starter with some whole grain bread, chips and rice cakes. The main dish varies, depending on the day - it may be Indian one day and Italian the next. The cuisines are exquisite!

If you're in Sintra and you want some healthy, wholesome food -- and vegan -- stop by Soul Food -- You'll be glad you did!!

P.S. -- There are sugar-free deserts, if you're into that!
