This vintage electric tram rattles and screeches its way from Pria de Macas to Sintra uo the Colores valley, and is excellent value at two euros per person, each way. However, it only operates on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the last tram down to the coast is at 1730, which means that if you miss it, you either have to take a bus, the 441 from close to the tram terminus, or a taxi, at around 16 euros, one way. The advatage is that you get a superb view from the toastrack style open tram, and it stops close to the pedestrian precinct in the newer part of Sintra, and only a few minutes walk to the tourist bus stop by the railway station, which is worth taking if only to see and experience the switchback road up to the Moorish Castle and Palace.

Its a top of the top. In Sintra we must do this "tram travel" and enjoy a sunny day, a good view and a nice 1 / 2h travel from the Centre till the beach

The Sintra tram still runs using nearly 100 year old trams. it only runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It take about 35 minutes and brings you down to a delightful little beach. Must be wonderful in Summer in fine weather to take the tram down and spend a few hours before returning after a day at the seaside. In Summer they occasionally run an open sided special tram.

The elusive Electrico de Sintra is a true piece of living history. This is a rare opportunity to ride 1904 vintage J. G. Brill 9 bench open tram. Electrico de Sintra primarily operates during high summer (mid-July to September) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In 2012 trams ran every 55 minutes with a one-way trip taking 45 minutes.

From the Sintra train station exit to the right, go straight ahead, cross the one-block pedestrian street and head up to the traffic circle. The tram terminal is on the left. Fare is two Euros. At Praia Das Macas there are food places near the tram terminal and a beach on the Atlantic Ocean. This tram line survives as a prestige heritage attraction, but does have history of off an on operation.

Boarding the tram requires some climbing as this is a 1904 vintage tram.

On the Camara Municipal de Sintra web site the Portuguese language timetable is usually the most accurate.

Well... The main problem is that it doesn't works most of the year, only during Summer. And the other problem is that it's only one tram. Although the ride from Sintra to Praia das Maças is amazing, you might quit waiting for it before it comes.
