Great views of Sintra and the surrounding countryside that can be seen from Pena. Impressive palace but felt it lacked the atmosphere and impressiveness of Regaleira. It was 11euro admission with a 2euro charge for the tram. 13euro each in total which was crazy considering Regaleira was only six euro. Felt it was too expensive and not worth the cost.

Good tour and fascinating place. Like most places of similar size and stature, you only get to see a little bit of the whole place. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and spoke English well. Because the weather was bad, we only did the palace. The gardens would be a great experience that would likely keep you busy for a week if you had the time.

By all means come here when visiting the region, but don't get too excited! Yes there is a lot of old stuff and some decent distant views... we were actually glad we were there in winter when you consider how busy it wouldve been in summer.....
We got there and after having to pay what we considered an exorbitant amount, found out that all it is is an old place with a lot of relics; albeit interesting.
Definitely walk up the 400 metres to get to the actual palace; do not pay the Euro 2.0 each way which is another rip off (unless you are unfortunately incapable of making the walk yourself).
Of note, do take your own food as the cafe is a bit of a rip off.... the chicken egg sandwiche had more butter than egg and chicken; and the tuna (Atum) pastry had more pastry than tuna.
And worst thing of all... the coffee... well I could have made a better coffee using instant coffee mix at home.... what a TOTAL RIP OFF....
In summation.... you can see more for less in other countries.... sad to say and we were both sadly disappointed with what we got and what we were charged with.

My wife and I visited this lovely place on Sunday 9th February. A horrendous storm was blowing when we arrived but this did not spoil the visit one bit, it was quite surreal being in the clouds with the wind howling around the lovely building.

The actual trip around the inside of the Palace doesn't take that long, an hour is about right. The grounds are lovely but not in a storm!!

Ill definitely be returning on my next visit but I would say this is a 1/2 day trip on a good weather day.

A must see on your day trip to Sintra. CAn be very busy so get their early if possible. A reminder of the follie of monarchy but now left for us to marvel at.
