“Kitsch”

It's kitsch. No aesthetic sense. Not even any sense of humour. Even worse than Neuschwanstein. The only good thing is the park, which is wonderful.

“Beautiful views, amazing place”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

This was our second trip to Sintra, and we missed Pena the first time. We purchased the combination direct train and Sintra bus ticket in Lisbon at Rossio station. You must go to the ticket window to purchase the combination. We took the bus up to Pena on arrival and then walked up the hill to the palace. If you struggle walking, you can take the tram up for an additional 2 euros. The palace is great, ornate, fun to walk through and enormous. We did not have time to stroll the grounds, that would be an all day event. I would see this one if you only have time for one palace in Sintra. The views are fantastic, and though the palace is not ancient, it is an amazing piece of architecture. Loved the furnishings, as well.

“Like a fairy tale palace...”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

One of the top attractions in a Lisbon city-break. A very interesting looking palace with many architectural styles combined. A recommend a guided tour to get you there, visit with a guide and then get you back in Lisbon.
It's kind of crowded in the week-ends but it's a very nice way to spend an afternoon. Some great places to take pictures...

“Cartoon palace”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

A romantic palace designed with every type of storybook architecture you can imagine - turrets, towers, walls etc. Lots of restoration taking place which was interesting to watch. You will need your camera here with a lot of battery power!
