The Palace dates back to the 17th Century. It is funny to see how people lived back there. It also have breathtaking views, so make sure you visit on a sunny day. The Palace is located on the top of a hill, so there will be some walking involved, and a funny train ride!

The palace is not in town so requires some energy to get to it. We were able to drive, which was a bit confusing, as the streets in Sintra are narrow and crowded with parked cars. We took advantage of getting our tickets at the Castelo dos Mouros which saved waiting in line at the entrance to the Palacio Also we took the bus up to the Palacio and also used it to get back to our car. This site is worth the time and money.

We visited for a day in July 2012. The park is absolutely beautiful and there are many different paths, plants and ponds. Even though it was a hot day in July, it didn't get to warm since much of the park benefits from shade from high trees. When you are here, don't miss the two castles nearby. Parking is right outside the gates. Don't walk up here from town, it's quite steep and takes some time.

We visited for a day in July 2012. We had a car and there's a car park right outside the gates to the park. Don't walk up, it's quite a climb. The park itself was lovely to walk around in, and the castle looked as if it was from a fairy tale. It's nicer from the outside than inside, but we recommend going inside as well. We spent about 3 hours here (both park and castle). There's a moorish castle nearby that's also worth visiting.

It feels like a medieval movie set that needs a really good coat of paint and current economic situation has not helped. The contents of the palace are well worth seeing, especially the restoration of glass. Try and find the Tower walk which is definately not for the faint hearted. Gardens are extensive and you could spend a day here, if it wasn't for that slightly "tacky" feel.
