We stayed several days in the Lord Byron Suite (named for the 19th Century British bad-boy poet who once stayed in this room for a period of time). The bedroom was simple (almost spartan), yet comfortable. The living room was nicely sized with fireplace, desk, couch, chair, desk and balcony. This is a historic hotel with some real history, so do no expect it to be a modern chain-style hotel. But it is definitely the place to stay in Sintra for some charm. An easy stroll from the hotel down to the center of town (restaurants and other sites), or uphill to various other historic landmarks and hotels. The on-site restaurant was nice too -- convenient for breakfast (included) yet we also enjoyed a pleasant meal for dinner one night.

Lawrence is the place to stay in Sintra.
This is an hotel part of Sintra´s culture and history, not a design hotel. The rooms are spacious with a great view, ask for room with a valley balcony, the quiet romantic decoration is a little bit spartan for some standards but I found it nice.
The breakfast/restaurante room is beautifull, the breakfast offers are diverse and fresh.
I will return to Lawrence's on future Sintra visits

Room Tip: ask for room with a valley balcony hard to park in busy tourist days

We had the good fortune to stay four nights at Lawrence's Hotel, the third week of May. We were upgraded to a suite, the Bela Vista, up on the fifth floor. It was incredibly charming. We arrived at night and when we got up to our immaculate room, and opened the windows, it truly was 'a beautiful view' of the town and lush greenery that abounds there. Our room came with all the creature comforts and was furnished with antique furnishings. It also had nice things like a towel warming rack, an in-room safe, flat screen TV (who had time to watch TV?) and bottled water provided. The front desk was delightful, especially Susanna who gave us GREAT tips on what restaurants to go to, the twice monthly farmer'/flea market-go there and have the chorizo baked in a small loaf of bread- another Susanna tip! We loved the various sitting rooms in the hotel, it was cozy, charming, clean, and SO convenient to most of the sites in Sintra. The tourist Center is just a short walk down the road as is the bus stop.

The hotel is in a great location near the center of town on the road to the castles. The bed was as hard as a rock and the pillows thin. we could not close the drapes as they tied back permanently. They have no parking! and narrow streets. Better to stay in Posada Queluz and take the train to Lisbon and Sintra

We recently stayed at Lawrence's Hotel in Sintra for two nights. The charm of this hotel starts when you drive up to the door. The building is a piece of history and it is the perfect place from which to tour the historic sites of Sintra. We stayed in the Lord Byron suite. It has a sitting room with a working fireplace and a small balcony that overlooks a ravine. The room was comfortable and furnished with antique pieces. The bed, while king sized, is really two twins pushed together. My only problem with it was that it was a bit hard and there was that crevice between the two mattresses to navigate. It would have been nice to have a bit more of a mattress pad on the bed that helped to cover that up. The bathroom was functional and the water was nice and hot with good pressure. The staff at the hotel were very accommodating and answered all of our questions and helped with transfer back to Lisbon. The location of this hotel is perfect for exploring the historic sites of Sintra on foot. We hiked up to the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace from the hotel. It took about 45 minutes or so, but the path was paved - if steep at times. The hotel is also just a short walk from the Regaleira Estate which has fantastic gardens to explore. It is also just a short walk to the center of the main square and the National Palace. The hotel provides breakfast which included a wide variety of offerings and we also ate at the hotel for dinner. The food was fine, if not outstanding, but the service couldn't be beat. Sintra really is something out of a fairytale and Lawrence's was the perfect place from which to experience it all.

This is a very fine 4* hotel (Portugal has a different system, we stayed at a 4* in Portimao that we would consider 3* by Melbourne standards). There are lots of cozy sitting rooms with fireplaces to have a glass of port and shake off the day, the rooms are charming and the location is just a short walk from the historic centre of Sintra, a marvel in itself. The staff was helpful, even providing breakfast for my parents at 4:30 in the morning so they had something to eat before they left for the airport at 5am. We stayed in the Cynthia room, a bit small but cozy. When the folks left we took their room, Patrimonio, which was much roomier and very nice. Only drawbacks were lack of parking and no internet in the rooms, though internet was available in all the common areas. The buffet breakfast was included and was good quality, and our dinner in the restaurant was exceptional (the duck is especially nice). I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Cynthia is small, Patrimonio is a good size with windows overlooking the street and a large bathroom...

Forget Tiffany's ; breakfast at Lawrence's is a five star delight. The fresh fruit, fresh pastries and cheeses, an old Portuguese style of yoghurt and a good pot of coffee make a wonderful start to the day. The hotel is traditionally comfortable and has its own unique character. The staff are friendly and attentive. We were only there for two nights but would happily have stayed longer. The folly of a castle at the top of the Sintra mountain has to be seen to be believed, and the views from the ramparts across to the Atlantic are stunning.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony.
