Located in the historical town of Sintra, 100m behind the tourist centre. The room is cosy and clean, family-like. We cooked a delicious supper with the welcome basket (pasta, carrot, tomato, a can of fish) and some vegetables we bought. The Porto wine given by the owner was tasty. Service from the reception was helpful too.

It's a bit far from the train station tough, but that applies to anywhere in the old town. A downside is the heating is not satisfying, a bit chill in March.

Room Tip: Choose the second floor. The economy suite in the first floor doesn't have a view.

We were greeted by the delightful owner, Ze, who made us feel like his home was our home. He was very helpful in knowing where to eat and enjoy the local culture. The views were spectacular and great price for the accommodations. Wish we'd had more time to stay there.

Room Tip: Large family apartment is perfect for family stay

Casa da Pendoa was a terrific find. We were just looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Sintra. We lucked out when we found this place. The location couldn't be any better. It was a 5 minute taxi ride from the train station in Sintra to get to the apartment. You could literally take a 5 minute walk to the National Palace of Sintra or a 15 minute walk to Quinta la Regalia. The Peña Palace and the Moorish castle were all very close to the hotel and easy to access. Right in town there was access to busses or taxis to get anywhere.

The apartment itself was clean and simple with modern touches. The kitchen and bathroom were both recently renovated and had nice new fixtures. The apartment we stayed in had a master bedroom with a queen sized bed and a second bedroom with two smaller beds, as well as a large open living room and a kitchen.

There was good strong wifi included and a nice flatscreen TV (which we didn't use). We had plentiful hot water, great water pressure and windows with great views.

The apartment was inexpensive, comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly, helpful and available. Overall this is a quaint, easy to stay at apartment. Everything you need is within walking distance including many of the sights.

(Note: this is a converted house, not a large hotel. So, there is no restaurant. You'll have to walk up to town for food or cook your own in the in-apartment kitchen)

Room Tip: Book early, and see if you can get an apartment on one of the lower floors. There is no elevator (since it's a converted house).

OK, so if you're looking at this accommodation you have already decided to visit Sintra. Which will be one of the best decisions you make, ever. Sintra is stunning. We stayed at Casa da Pendoa for 3 nights as we wanted the facilities of a studio at a reasonable price, and overall we really enjoyed our stay. We had apt 5b, which is a loft studio. It has 3 separate opening windows, all with shutters, and one window has a lovely view right up the hill to the Moorish castle. The only member of staff we met was David, who was very friendly and eager to help. The room is for 2 people with 2 single beds pushed together. It was air-conditioned, which was nice. The kitchenette included a kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave, along with a washing machine and a line outside the castle view window to hang the washing out, which we did, like the locals do :-) The location in Sintra was excellent - in the historical centre, just a few strides away from restaurants and sights, including the National Palace, and about a 10 minute walk from the Quinta de Regaleira - a must-see house and gardens. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the train station, albeit a very pleasant one, and the street is fairly quiet. Another good thing was the free wi-fi. Negatives - well, the bathroom could do with a good clean around the shower area and a look at the plumbing, as it smelled of blocked drains quite badly, so much we had to keep the bathroom door shut all the time we were in the apartment. Hot water took a while to come. Other minor issues such as door knobs falling off and no remote control for the TV (old-style i.e. not flatscreen).

Room Tip: If you're tall don't choose our room, 5b, the loft studio (advertised as 'mountain view'), as you'll no doubt bang your head on the sloping ceilings that cover half the room!

We had a wonderful stay at Casa da Pendoa! The location is superb - right in the old village and a short walk from Quinta da Regaleira, one of the main attractions in Sintra. Our room was much larger than I expected - it had a full kitchen and even a washing machine. It's great value for the price!
