Our tour guide took us to this attractive patio restaurant around the corner from our hotel. We were interested in the salmon and cod and a couple other fish so the waiter said he could make a mixed grill fish platter for us. We thought this sounded a splendid idea, but when it arrived it had none of the fish we were interested in, only prawns, baby octupus and sardines. Very disappointing. The meal for 4 cost 95 euros when normally would cost around 60 for 4 people for lunch (including two beers and an inexpensive bottle of wine). The saving grace was the waiter, who was heaps of fun and flirted shamelessly with my mum.

This is a neat spot tucked away on an less traveled street. The diners were all local except for our 2 tables. The owner is really fun and friendly. We did not look at the menu and let him choose for us. They started us with some olives and bread. We had a carafe of wine and 4 different types of fish grilled right there on the patio. The fish came with a side of vegetables. Everything was very good. This was a great surprise!

Hungry and after walking for 30 minutes, we come to a dead end on top of the mountain, void of anything that looked like it could provide sustenance. We must make a decision to go back down and try again. My wife then looks over down the block and there is a crudely hand written sign taped to a worn chair that says in English, “Look down.”

She walks over and looks and there is a perfect shaded garden restaurant called Restaurant Páteo do Garrett overlooking the entire city. She walks down the stairs and quickly makes friends with the owner/waiter (she’s in short pants and still tan from a few days ago) and we grab a table right on the balcony with a carafe of ice cold white house wine brought immediately out.

She had the grouper which is a steak cut. The fish must have been very large in the water. It was phenomenal. I have never had better. I had the sea bream which was served whole and was also very good. They cooked both fish on an open fire on the patio with only a few herbs and olive oil. The service was great. It was a very romantic lunch that we just happened to stumble upon.

We went to this restaurant back in May...and I have not forgotten it! The service and the food was absolutely divine! A little gem! Please do not miss it when you walk up the hill! As the sign says...'Please look down'. They do a fabulous fish or meat bbq...as well as many other dishes. We had fish, and it was perfect! When later saw the waiter, whilst wandering around Sintra, a couple of hours after we had eaten at the restaurant, he recognised us and bought us some liquer chocolates to try! If you travel to Sintra...this is the perfect place to spend a lovely, romantic lunch or an evening meal in a peaceful and beautiful location. The food s absolutely wonderful!

Staff were a great laugh. Playing little tricks on us, having a laugh. Food was prepared well, accepted credit cards for payment, more than happy to split bills. Grilled options were the chosen options for us and we weren't disappointed. Prices were average for Portugal but this is a tourist town! Limited view from the courtyard but the service and quality of the food made up for that.
