We had dinner at Arola on our first night at Penha Longa as part of our half-board booking, and we were very pleasantly surprised. To start with, the atmosphere is set right upon the golf course with a wonderful 180 view of the green. The restaurant itself is modern, with lots of light, and a magnificent attitude.
At the beginning of our visit, our waiter was a bit slow bringing drinks and things, but once the food started coming (in 5 courses!) he was right on top of it, with the help of his colleagues. I won't reiterate everything we ate, but it was all extremely creative and superbly tasty. My boyfriend and I kept joking about how we'd have to go eat a burger at the hotel afterward because all of the portions were so small, but we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied!
We ordered cocktails after dessert - a cosmo and margarita - and I have to say that is my only complaint of the place. My cosmo was terrible, even after I asked the waitress to have it made again. What we learned later though, is that they didn't have a proper bar tender. The wonderful part is that they were open to suggestions, and let me show them how to make a proper one! We spent both nights we were at the hotel drinking cocktails at Arola. Our waitress' name was Constansa, and she was fabulous!! Make sure she sees this review!
