Obidos is absolutely gorgeous, and I was enchanted by this little hotel. There is no getting away from history, with rooms named after Portuguese queens, and a view from the bedroom balcony across the sweet little courtyard to the impressive, ancient city walls. Despite being inside the walls of the higgledy piggledy village, rightly attracting a fair few tourists, it was still a very tranquil option indeed. And not only because of the complementary cherry liquor and cakes!
We stayed three nights, and as we had no car the hotel helped arrange a taxi out to the beach and to a wine tour at the beautiful Quinta da Sanguinal. The restaurant served some of the nicest food I ate in Portugal, and is definitely recommended (the only comaparably tongue-ticklingly amazing food we found in Obidos was at the restaurant in the Great Hall of the towering medieval castle (now-hotel) hotel that dominates one end of the town, which was a very marvellous experience too).More
