This is a must see when in this part of the World as is walking on the castle wall (however be careful as it does not have any safety rails on one side and wear sensible footwear) but very much worth a walk around. The views from the wall simply stunning. The village itself is charming.

A small fortified city full of history, with the prettiest houses I've seen in the whole Portugal, going from south to north. We preferred to have a room for the night inside the walls, rather than staying elsewhere nearby. This way we interacted better with the people and the specific atmosphere. The town is full of various wall flowers, the houses are so chic and stylish. For the night there are street lamps all over the place, giving the city a magic aura. The food is great, especially the fresh fish, unforgettable. You can climb and walk on the city walls, preserved so well, despite the hundreds of years passed upon them.
Obidos is also a place full of culture and art, where many artists publish their works.
And finally, I highly recommend the place we stayed: Casa dos Frutos Divinos. Try it, it is really really nice!

We used the Rick Steve's book on Portugal and drove through the areas within an hour of Lisbon. The book recommended the village of Obidos for perfect photographs. It was absolutely correct. This small hillside village is beautiful. Be sure to wear good walking shoes because you will need to park your car at the bottom of the hill. The narrow streets lead up to the old castle. Along the way there are little shops and restaurants. Well worth the trip!

This medieval village appears to be well recreated and would be great during he bustling festival period which seems to be July and August each year. During the rest of the year you can wander around and look at the sights. Of special interest may be a walk along the castle wall. It goes for a very long way and Ian place is quite high and unprotected. There are great views of the countryside.

If you are in the area you must pay a visit. The castle walls must be walked as the views are outstanding. The cherry brandy in a chocolate cup are gorgeous and should be downed in one!
