Obidos Medival Village is a MUST SEE for visitors to Portugal.

The area of the town of Óbidos is located on a hilltop, encircled by a fortified wall, but divided between the two parishes of São Pedro and Santa Maria in the municipality of Óbidos.

Óbidos remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture; its streets, squares, walls and its castle are a popular tourist destination.

Such a charming and pretty walled village steeped in history, culture and tradition.
Little colourful buildings inside the wall, a small church, little market and lots of restaurants/ cafe's and locally made souvieners.

Please allow at least 4 hours to walk around the village walls and cobbled narrow streets.

A Pay & Display CAR PARK in entrance to the village. Fairly reasonable at about 3 euros for up to 4 hours approx

Having been to Portugal 3 times now, I can honestly say that this little walled in village is one of the nicest places I have ever been. You can visit all the little shops and cafes around, walk around the walls, and you must try some "Ginja" - liquor from Obidos made from cherries. A few times a year, they have events such as the medieval fair and the chocolate festival. It's definitely worth a visit when the medieval festival is on. They have little stalls where the local villages around cook food and bring it to sell at the stalls. They also have horses, dogs, birds and snakes on show. If you ever visit Portugal, you should definitely take some time to visit this lovely village.

Where do I even start....... This little walled in village is sooooooooooooo charming!! The architecture is charming, the people are charming, the bougainvillea is everywhere and sooooooooooo pretty!!

We stayed in Lisbon but had our guide bring us here for a couple of hours and it did not disappoint!! It's a fun little village to just get lost in!!

Side Note: The streets are cobblestone, so be cautious when walking. Also, be cautious if you decide to climb the castle wall as it's dangerous.

Highly Recommended!!!!!!!

Only about 45 minutes drive from Lisbon, this medieval town on top of a hill is a true delight.

We actually went with a guide, and learned so much more of its history than going by ourselves. We were there at festival time (early August) so the place was really humming.

Lots of really lovely little shops to browse as well, and we found many gifts of cork to take home at reasonable prices. You can try the local liquor in chocolate cups. Yummy!

Be aware that the streets are steep if you have a walking problem.
