After reading some of the previous reviews about the amount of tourists, I think that when we showed up at 5PM, it was a great move. When we got there, people were filing out, and we didn't have to fight the crowds at all. Of course, this meant that we only had about an hour of daylight, but it was enough time to visit. We walked through the streets for awhile and all of the shops were still open. At sunset we climbed up onto the castle wall surrounding the village and the sunset made a great background for the village. It was a very quaint town and worth a visit, especially if you are driving between Lisbon and Porto.

The wall city is so well preserved and still lived in with homes, shops, restaurants and of course a castle!

Obidos has been declared a national monument, one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. Its charm comes with its picturesque cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses, Gothic doorways and windows, whitewashed churches, flowerpots with vibrant colour flowers and dazzling tiles - all encircled by the walls of a 12th century castle. Scaling its medieval walls is the best way to admire this place.
We spent only two hours there as a stop on our way from Lisbon to Alcobaca Monastery, but I can say for sure that Obidos is worth the visit. I find this place quite romantic.

Old mediaeval style walled town with quaint buildings and streets. Excellent views from the top of the castle area.
Lots of souvenir shops selling pretty much the same stuff but it didnt spoil the visit.
