“Excellent option - right outside the walls”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2012

We, a retired couple, stayed here for one night at the end if June 2012. The hotel is situated in a great location immediately outside one of the gates into this jewel of a town, just minutes from everything. Being outside the walls, it alleviated the problem with access and parking that exists for hotels inside the old town. The hotel is a charming place, full of antiques in the hallways, and in the furniture in the very nice bedroom, which was large with a good queen bed and a good-sized clean bathroom with a good shower. There are armored knights and crossbows at every corner, and shields and tapestries hanging from the walls. The staff wear medieval costumes. We parked in the underground parking (included) and later in the day rested a while at the pleasant pool. There was a good full breakfast included with lots of options - hot and cold - and free wifi. This hotel is an excellent option for price, service and location.

The hotel is somewhat special. Our room was okay but very sober. It felt like being in a convent. The big room key-on-a-chain and the costumes worn by the staff added to the experience. It was much overdone.
Location of the hotel is good, just outside the city walls. The garage is certainly a big plus for this hotel.
Internet is not free of charge, which I feel should be in a 4* hotel.
Staff were all very friendly.
Breakfast was good despite the bake-off rolls. Service was sometimes a bit slow as if the breakfast room was understaffed.

Great location for this medieval themed hotel, just outside the old town walls. The whole hotel was decorated in theme and our room had medieval style banners, furniture and a great medieval style key too. The room and bathroom were very spacious. Service was good and staff recommended restaurants for dinner that night. You receive a discount if you dine at the Pousada in the village and free drinks at another restaurant if you are staying at this hotel. Breakfast was buffet with a great choice of meats, cheese, bread, fruit and yoghurt. They even had bacon and eggs. We could not make use of the swimming pool because of the weather, but it did look very inviting.

We spent the last night of our trip around Portugal here after reading the reviews. And they weren't wrong, this is a really memorable medieval-themed hotel. There are suits of armour and swords all over the place, and quite a lot of medieval style furniture in the rooms. Staff were extremely friendly, and the breakfast was probably the best we had in Portugal. There is also a pool, but unfortunately the weather was not quite good enough to use it!

The hotel is just outside the town walls of Obidos, which makes it easy to drive to, as well as easy to explore the town. Obidos is really pretty, but probably best explored in the morning or evening after the coach tours have departed - it feels a lot more authentic wandering the quiet streets after dark. There are also lots of inviting bars and restaurants to explore.

The hotel is set up to be medieval and the decor is armour and the like with staff wearing costume. The room keys are big chunky things with a length of chain attached. The weather was not good enough to use the swimming pool but it looked inviting and clean. The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfasts really good. The hotel is at the botoom of the town and the paths are pretty steep so you need to be in good health and have good walking shoes. The only downside was the walls seem thin and we had a noisy occupant next door.

Delightful town and location. The hotel is rated #1 on TA for a reason- the location cannot be beat just outside the town walls (literally steps away) and available parking on the street. The medieval theme is fun and fitting. As previously stated the rooms are lovely; ours had a large four poster bed as well. Breakfast was impressive particularly the fresh squeezed orange juice and champagne for mimosas.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The town does not really merit more than a one night stay, but you will enjoy the time spent there.

Try the tapas restaurant next door. It was wonderful!

If you like a bit of a medieval theme this place is great. Each room is different - mine had a carved four poster bed, big hunks of dark wooden furniture, and a spotless big bathroom. The room was quite dark with only a couple of table lamps for lighting, but it was certainly atmospheric. The rooftop pool and terraces are a great place to enjoy the views and the sunshine, and the lounge area near the hotel entrance is curl-up comfy and perfect for a welcome gin and tonic. Overall, the medieval styling is a bit bonkers but quite stylish and not too overdone. The breakfast was a good selection but the coffee was grim compared to the usual 'punch you in the face' strength of coffee I got everywhere else. There's plenty to do and see in Obidos all of it a short (if uphill) walk away - the contemporary art festival in June (June of Arts) is worth visiting for and they have a chocolate festival every March plus numerous other festivals across the year.
