Since the day I discovered this hotel, I knew sooner or later I would book a stay there. It was an inevitable place for me to visit, given the eco awareness, design and simplicity of it.

And so it happened, once my girlfriend and I had availability for a weekend. As Rio do Prado is a environmentally sustainable hotel, we decided to turn our stay also environmentally friendly too. And so we travelled by train to Óbidos, the nearest train station. It’s not easiest way to get there and the station is somewhat abandoned, but our transportation method still turned our weekend even more magic and different.

As soon as we arrived Rio do Prado, we noticed the quietness and simplicity of the place, completely incomparable to the frenetic life we’re used to in the city. Telmo, one of the hosts, kindly welcomed us and took some of his time to explain us everything about Rio do Prado and our stay.

We booked a Deluxe Suite and couldn’t be more satisfied with it. Spacious, cleaned and amazingly well decorated with lots of unique details. Also, a big plus for the huge bathtub just in the middle of the room. We organized our stuff and hurried to the swimming pool, next to restaurant. It was a really pleasant swim! Then, as per our request, Telmo prepared the Sauna for us. To be honest, sauna is not my preferred place at a Spa, but this time I could really relax and make the most of it.

As the sun sets, Rio do Prado gets this magical felling, accompanied by the bonfire just made. It’s the perfect timing for a glass of wine! As we were also welcoming Autumn, Telmo prepared some delicious sausages. Afterwards, me and my soulmate went inside for dinner. The restaurant Maria Batata (named after a really cute history) is amazingly well-decorated, also in tune with the surrounding nature just like the rest of the hotel. Food is good, but still missing some taste to become excellent.

On the other hand, breakfast by the morning is great with a nice variety of cereals, yogurts, juices, homemade cakes and more… Unfortunately our time at the Rio do Prado flied but thankfully we managed to stay a bit more (roughly until 6 PM), as we checked-out and even got a ride back to the Óbidos’ train station.

I definitely couldn’t finish this review without congratulation and specially thanking Telmo and Marta for their kindness and availability, making our stay perfect and turning Rio do Prado into an unique place. With no doubt, we’ll get back as soon as possible.

Room Tip: If available, pick a Deluxe Room farthest from the rest of the hotel.

Rio do Prado is simply the best place we have visited to date! The place oozes luxury while staying true to it's eco-friendly label. That it only has 17 mini villas makes it a peaceful resort close to all of the places you want to visit in that region of Portugal. The service is 5 star, the food is superb and the pools are gorgeous! There's not much more to say...just get there as soon as you can!

I'm a big Óbidos fan and a regular visitor for many years. So i never expect major surprises. Well ... i couldn't be more mistaken about that. This month i found Rio do Prado located in a small rural borough (Arelho) 2 miles away from Óbidos and just in front of Óbidos lagoon. What a SPOT!!!
It is a design eco-resort with lots of details and most probably you'll get unique experiences.

Location: near Óbidos lagoon and easy to find with a GPS. Car is recommended to visit nearby places (Óbidos - 2 miles; Lagoon - 1,5 miles; Beach - 6 miles; Golf - 3 miles; Lisbon - 50 miles);
Rooms: each room is indeed a villa with a small terrace. Comfy, clean, spacious and luxury amenities, including bathrobes. Details: design furniture, LED TV and DVD player, free Wi-Fi and a jacuzzi tub in the middle of the room that supposedly can be used for aromatherapy and massages (which i didn't tried ... maybe next time);
Food: the restaurant room is a must. All tables near a huge window with a great view to the garden and the pool. I was told that vegetables, fruits, etc., comes from Rio do Prado organic farming. The menu is variable and based on seasonal products but still yummy! Details: handmade furniture made from recycled wood, genuine fruit juice, creative dishes and staff told us that soon they will open a grocery where guests may buy some products from their farm;
Staff: very professional, useful and friendly. Details: they explained the concept of the resort as if they were telling a story;
Services & Facilities: free Wi-Fi, SPA (not sure if it was already open ...), bar, pool and i was particularly interested in the auditorium as this may be a great place for my company events. They have avantgarde technology which allows the guest to discover its ecological footprint. Awesome!!
Activities: Golf, fishing, beach, byking around the lagoon, Óbidos events and ... relax!!

The MUST: between the restaurant and the pool there is a terrace with loungers and a soft background music playing. TIP: at the sunset and before dinner have a unique relax experience there with a couple of beers or a bottle of wine and enjoy the chillout!

Recommended for families with children, couples getaways, eco-travelers, chiilout, relax and company events.
